Gonzales Now Says Top Aides Got Political Briefings
Source: Washington Post

Justice Department officials attended at least a dozen political briefings at the White House since 2001, including some meetings led by Karl Rove, President Bush's chief political adviser, and others that were focused on election trends prior to the 2006 midterm contest, according to documents released yesterday.
....
A list of briefings for Justice officials was included with a letter sent yesterday from Gonzales to Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which sought to clarify and correct parts of his testimony before the panel on July 24. The list was sent to House oversight committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) in June, but it had not been released publicly before yesterday.

At the July 24 hearing, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) asked Gonzales whether any of "the leadership of the Department of Justice" had participated in political briefings, pointing to examples involving employees from the State Department, Peace Corps and U.S. Agency for International Development.

"Not that I'm aware of. . . . I don't believe so, sir," Gonzales said.

1. Gonzo was given a grace period to make corrections to his testimony.
This must be one lie that can be proven.

3. Isn't that amazing?
The members of the Senate Judiciary Committee KNEW on that day that Gonzales testified, that he was lying to them, and so they give him this time to correct parts of his testimony.

I would aruge that if that were you or me going before the Judiciary Committee, we would be expected to tell the whole truth and nothing but, and we would not be given the opportunity to correct our testimony.

8. Everyone is typically given the opportunity to correct his/her testimony
This is standard procedure. A written transcript is provided to the witness to correct as necessary/apppropriate.

9. And if a democrat lied like this in front in a GOP led inquiry?
Would the republicans allow them to, "correct," their testimony? The democrats are such wimps. I am beginning to loathe congressional Dem's.

16. Probably not, because Republicans are too stupid to know that you don't base an Impeachment...
...on Perjury. They did that with President Clinton and what happened? Nothing. He ended up looking like a Martyr and they ended up exposed as a bunch of Political Hacks.

This becomes a "Sword of Damocles" hanging over his head, so that if he continues this type of crap (and he will), it becomes "Count #3" in his eventual impeachment.

Remember, Impeachment is not removal from office, "...impeachment is the first of two stages in a specific process for a legislative body to remove a government official without that official's agreement. The second stage is called conviction.

Impeachment is so rare that the term is often misunderstood. A typical misconception is to confuse it with involuntary removal from office; in fact, it is only the legal statement of charges, paralleling an indictment in criminal law. An official who is impeached faces a second legislative vote (whether by the same body or another), which determines conviction, or failure to convict, on the charges embodied by the impeachment...."

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeachment>

The Democrats KNOW that the Perjury is being done to hide the bigger "High Crimes and Misdemeanors"

This is all about putting more pressure on Gonzo to cooperate in further investigations.

13. Gonzales is Shrub's asbestos suit.
If Gonzales disappears, Bush goes up in flames.

He's staying.

4. Did I say none? Would you believe . . .
It's a shame Don Adams died; he would have been perfect to play Alberto if the day ever comes when we can actually laugh at this farce of an administration.

5. He's admitting to an illegal act that he lied about.
Political briefings at the WH are a no-no according to the Hatch Act.

11. Did Gonzo get it right this time ?
If Gonzo did not get it right this time again, then the the Dems need to give him more time to get it right, and also send a few more very really, really really strong,Stern worded letters of mistrust and no confidence,in his ability to serve at the head of our justice.
That would really show them we mean business, and will not tolerate this
charade forever.

Now we must move on to give full approval to Buscho's new Fisa plan.

You are either with us,or against us.:sarcasm:
