Latest poll shows growing support for Iraq war policy
Source: USA Today

USA TODAY's Susan Page reports that President Bush is making some headway in arguing that the increase in U.S. troops in Iraq is showing military progress.

In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, taken Friday through Sunday, the proportion of those who said the additional troops are "making the situation better" rose to 31% from 22% a month ago. Those who said it was "not making much difference" dropped to 41% from 51%.

About the same number said it was making things worse: 24% now, 25% a month ago.

The number of those who favor removing virtually all U.S. troops from Iraq by next April 1 has dropped a bit, though two-thirds of those surveyed still support the idea.

In the July survey, a record high of 62% had called the invasion of Iraq "a mistake." That view is now held by 57%, roughly where it's been for more than a year.

Nothing more than manipulation of the numbers, which they are good at following 2000, 2002 and 2004.

9. The Nazis managed to garner a lot of support for their foreign policy
within Germany too, due mostly to the fact that no one who opposed it was afforded any access to the media. Since in our country all the media, Congressional "leaders", presidential candidates, and the owning class are in favor of the status quo, it's not surprising that the hoi polloi are coming around too. For my money, the sooner the ruling class breaks this thing into a million pieces the better.

11. Really? Let's take a look at the top 10 searches from Yahoo today:
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 05:30 PM by still_one
1. Sean Penn
2. Duggar Family
3. Bourne Ultimatum
4. Underdog
5. Michael Strahan
6. Paula Zahn
7. Dolly Parton
8. Legally Blonde
9. Summer Activities for...
10. Charles Simic

and if you look at the top 10 searches on most days, I would be quite surprised if you saw anything on Iraq

Another thing to note, USA today was one of the biggest advocates for pushing this war, so they have a vested interest to pass the buck back to the people

One more thing in case anyone is looking, the Iraqii government is falling apart:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070806/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

Next month the figures will go back down, but not much will be said

Sure, Baghdad has less violence, but that is not the same in other areas. In addition, the momement we leave they come back in, something Wesley Clark has pointed out. This is purely an illusion, just like the poll that people really believe that it is better

The figures still show skepticism, and isn't a true indicator. The true indicator is the top 10 search list from Yahoo

They are trying to perpetuate the same old fraud. They did it during Viet Nam and they are doing it now. Same woman, different dress

15. The headline alone reveals this as pure propaganda.
In earlier times, the editor's desk would have begun giving "Susan Page" the fish eye over this because it reveals her status as a "plant." But in BushWorld, the entire media culture is compromised, so we routinely get pieces like this.

Just remember that 83% of all statistics cited in the popular press are either partly or entirely bogus.

20. The MSM has witnessed that the DEM Congress is a miserable failure and they are now glomming onto
the perceived victor, Bush and Klan.

We (democrats) won it and then we pissed it away.

Just look at the 'positive press' coming out of iraq this past 2 weeks while, if you dig (sources not allowed on THIS forum), you find the casualties and atrocities still at record levels.

it's becoming a tidal wave! I can feel it in the air...it's out there...somewhere...

I'm gonna go out and ask around. I'm positive that by the end of the day I'll find someone who's in favor of the "surge."

29. This is only the begining...
The goal is to get those Pubbies that have been slowly drifting in their support back on target.. and Possibly sway some of the Blue Dog DINO's to their vision....

What it does is that it allows Patreaus to bring a report in September that asks for more time, more money and more patience it also allows Bush to rachet up rhetoric and since our Democratic leaders fear him he will win...

No wonder Congress gets poll ratings at 3 percent..

Brush sure is a strong lame duck thanks to the weakness of the Democratic leadership....

What will our leaders say if he convinces more Americans that the phony surge worked... Writing on the wall for 08...

1. Surge is working..
2. Democrats on wrong side of History..
3. We can safely begin troop draw downs..
4. Need to establish long term military bases

Victory oh and by the way did I tell you that the Democrats never supported victory...

THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS SCENARIO IS TO IMPEACH NOW !!!

31. A Policy Would Be Nice
I would agree if I only read the headline. Most rational people would support having some policy for the Iraq War. The "surge" is not a policy. I don't think our government has articulated a plan or a policy. These would have been nice to have had 4 years ago.
