9/11 workers outraged by new Rudy claim

BY CELESTE KATZ
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

His statement rang false to Queens paramedic Marvin Bethea, who said he suffered a stroke, posttraumatic stress disorder and breathing problems after responding to the attacks. "I personally find that very, very insulting," he said. "Standing there doing a photo-op and telling the men, 'You're doing a good job,' I don't consider that to be working," said Bethea, 47.

Ironworker Jonathan Sferazo, 52, who said he spent a month at the site and is now disabled, runs a worker advocacy group with Bethea and called Giuliani's comments "severely" out of line. "He's not one of us. He never has been and he never will be. He never served in a capacity where he was a responder," Sferazo said.

"(Giuliani) is self-absorbed, arrogant and deluded," said IAFF spokesman Jeff Zack.

Responded Giuliani spokesman Michael McKeon, "Americans saw Rudy's performance for themselves during the aftermath of 9/11 and will dismiss this as the ridiculous and partisan rantings of a Democratic front group, because that's what they are.

1. but those dissenting voices
will become even louder and cause quite a problem for Rudy should he make it to the General Election, which I doubt he will.

I mean, who you gonna trust: a first responder/fireman/9/11 Survivor or Rudy Guiliani?

2. I have a feeling Rudy went one step too far this time with that comment.
All I can imagine is that Judith offhandedly said, "You know, you DID breathe in the same air they did and you spent an awful lot of time down there (i.e., WTC)." And the wheels in Rudy's head started to turn.

10. And the movie star, who is about 10 times more homely than Dennis Kucinich.
I still think Huckabee has a chance. He's been talking like a liberal lately.

13. Um, no they won't, Mickey
because drooliani is false and unqualified to be president of this country. he photo-op'd instead of doing what was needed at the time of the disaster--in fact, due to his actions, a lot of unnecessary deaths occured. I happen to value my life and do not want anything regarding my life to be placed in his hands, his judgment. He embodies everything that is wrong with this country.

16. Americans saw Rudy's performance for themselves during the aftermath of 9/11..
Indeed we did.

This American was not fooled. He had no office because after the WTC attack of 93 he was stupid enough to put his command center in WTC 7 against the advice of all his people.

Judy Ruliani is a thoroughly repulsive politician.

17. So what if it IS a DNC "front group? You *lied* Rudy! You lied!
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 03:52 PM by DinoBoy
ON EDIT: I think this is probably the biggest gaffe Giuliani has yet faced. No one actually expects a mayor to be taking part in hands on rescue efforts full time in a crisis of any scale, but instead running the big picture, which is arguably what he did.

But for him to intimate that he was there every day on his hands and knees digging through the rubble. That's just appalling!

20. Rudy is full of shit, which means he's full ofhimself...
because Rudy G. is a steaming pile of shit. Rudy is a petty opportunist. He has milked 9/11 for all it's worth. 9/11 however, will not get him into the Whitehouse.

21. what a jerk
So he wore a mask? Some of the people working in the cleanup and recovery effort after Sept. 11 wore masks, but the most effective ones were effective for no more than 20 minutes. Now that gives you an idea of how much time he spent there. Probably long enough to get his face in the paper.

The Fire Department tracked a startling increase in cases of a particular lung scarring disease, known as sarcoidosis, among firefighters, which rose to five times the expected rate in the two years after Sept. 11. New evidence also suggests that workers who arrived later or worked on the periphery may also be susceptible to debilitating lung ailments. For those who haven't seen our video called
Rudy Giuliani-Urban Legend, it can be seen here.
