Pat Robertson: God tells me it's Bush in a blowout

Now THAT’S a headline

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-12robertson,0,3698134.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines

Posted January 2 2004, 12:44 PM EST
NORFOLK, Va. -- Pat Robertson said Friday that God told him President Bush will be re-elected in a landslide.

``I really believe I'm hearing from the Lord it's going to be like a blowout election in 2004. It's shaping up that way,'' Robertson said.

``The Lord has just blessed him,'' Robertson said of Bush. ``I mean, he could make terrible mistakes and comes out of it. It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad, God picks him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him.''

The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, a frequent Robertson critic and executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, said he had a prediction of his own.

``I predict that Pat Robertson in 2004 will continue to use his multimillion broadcasting empire to promote George Bush and other Republican candidates,'' Lynn said in a statement. ``Maybe Pat got a message from (Bush political adviser) Karl Rove and thought it was from God.''

Not to be judgemental, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell arrive in hell, cause it will be quite an event. Of course I'd need a quick escape route - I'm not perfect, but don't think I deserve to go there too.

I hope he and Falwell opens their piehole a lot this year. We can use their turning off potential shrub voters.

34. Yes, and that is why...
Robertson's disgusting prediction will probably come true.

I had a conversation with an uncle last night about Bush (whom he supports because his church does), and he had never even known about such things as the TANG scandal or the "Trifecta" statemnents, and on and on. WHY? Because the goddamned media keeps a lid on it, that's why.

Several months ago someone started to bring up Shrubs AWOLism on Wolff Blitzer's Sunday show. The man nearly came out of his seat, virtually screaming "No, No, No!. We're not going to talk about that!"

This is why the American public is "blissfully ignorant" and why the SOB probably will win in a frickin' landslide. I blame it all on Media complicity and public apathy & laziness.

NO most people don't know about that.

I think it was in Franken's book (maybe Conason's) froma newpaper article where a Lexis-Nexus search revealed 1,571 columns about Clinton's draft record during his campaign and only ~49 in W's. That was shocking in it's concreteness.

I wish I could be more help, but this occurred several months ago when he still had is 3rd hour discussion group on Sunday. It has been so long ago, I certainly don't remember the date, but I sure do remember that he did it.

I do remember that it was the black lady panel member (can't remember her name) who started to discuss the matter when he practically screamed "No, no, no, we're not going to discuss that." It was just appalling.

I actually started a thread here on DU about it at the time, but it was such a long time ago. I do think it was during the past year, but don't know for sure. Anyway, I'd be glad to provide you a link if it were possible, but trust me... it happened.

And if they still want to vote then it means they don't trust God to do the right thing.

110. Using the older, less exact definition
As in the 1913 Webster's http://www.hyperdictionary.com/dictionary/reptile

2. (Zo<"o>l.) One of the Reptilia, or one of the Amphibia.

Note: The amphibians were formerly classed with Reptilia, and
are still popularly called reptiles, though much more
closely allied to the fishes.

So there! :P

Altho I agree that it is rather cute for Pat...

101. Indian River Road maybe?
I used to live near the Centerville Turnpike (a subdivision between it and Kempsville Road) before they sealed it off for his little empire a few years ago.

This was back in the 80's when Centerville went directly in front of what was then CBN.

I never saw Pat in any of the local places, but my friends and I spotted Ben Kinchlow with his family at Pizza Hut (if it is still there on Kempsville Road nearby) once. We talked out loud about Satan and his plan for our future. Great fun.

Welcome to DU!

21. Of course. Why do I have no trouble believing this?
"Blowout". Such an interesting word. Like in a flat tire. Or a pineapple grenade exploding. A Freudian slip, maybe?

Of course, Pat just sees Bush's indiscretions as nothing more than "God's play". Meaning, he can make as many mistakes as he wants, and he still floats to the top. How charming.

Whatever happened to accountability? Like being responsible for your actions? I guess this means that Bush is God's Beloved Child, the Apple of his eye, meaning he can do no wrong.

Unlike the rest of us who have to live with our actions. Everything we do is subject to good results or bad results, depending on the deed. I guess those rules don't apply to Bush or the rest of his family.

Arrogance in the nth degree.

awful photo I have ever seen in my life (trying to stay calm). This one is almost as bad as the one around Thanksgiving that was posted here. It showed Bush with a golden crown behind him which said "King of Kings". It seemed like it was deliberately hung there so Bush could stand below it and be "God".

But this new one - I swear Rove did this on purpose. They will use this one as the main campaign photo. BUSH IS GOD. See the holy aura around his face.

Don't look too closely at his face, though.

-- is a brain-addled egomaniac.

Some sincere Christians have distanced themselves from his manipulative and hateful remarks, but not nearly enough. It would be nice if mainstream Christian ministers would more vociferously marginilize an unstable and misrepresentative sensibility like Robertson's.

37. A number of quite sincere Christian friends of mine....
have told me that they do NOT endorse either Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell and recognize them as radical fringe elements of "Christianity" and they don't like them either.

I asked them do they vote for Republican candidates, and of course they said yes. I quickly, but politely informed them that, if that's the case, then they do INDEED endorse the agendas of Mr. Robertson and Mr. Falwell.

43. I'm a quite sincere Christian
And Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell et al. make me sick. These people represent the antithesis of everything Jesus stood for.

If Robertson had a message from God (not likely) telling him Bush is going to win, I think we can consider that a warning more than a promise....

48. Well....
I think we need to bear in mind that many Republicans, including Christians, don't buy into the whole fundamentalist jihad business. They're Republican for economic or military issues, and don't share the vision of Robertson/Falwell etc. for a theocratic America. So it's certainly conceivable for Christians to vote Republican because they want lower taxes -- not because they want prayer in school.

It seems to me, Bush hasn't made any as far as Robertson is concerned. War, death, corporate greed, enriching the rich, religion in school, what's wrong with that? So, I wonder what Pat thinks Bush* did that was a "mistake"?

Oh, never mind. He's probably just upset that Bush* didn't set up the gay/lesbian concentration camps yet.

had twenty such men as you attacked me, all of them would have
fallen before my spear. Fate and the son of Leto have overpowered
me, and among mortal men Euphorbus; you are yourself third only in the
killing of me. I say further, and lay my saying to your heart, you too

close upon you, and they will lay you low by the hand of Achilles

Turn the TV on starting at about 4AM Sunday morning and flip channels until you hear someone shouting. Seems like most of them (at least way more than random chance would dictate) are based either in Texas or Florida. I've always wondered why.

105. Pat Robertson advised Ronald Reagan on Guatemala, f'r crissakes
You know how much magic Ronald Reagan wrought, butting into their affairs.

(snip) CANDIDATE ROBERTSON'S CENTRAL AMERICA POLICY
by Sara Diamond, copyright 1986

TV preacher Pat Robertson is the only prospective
presidential candidate who not only has a Central America policy
but also provides Bibles, beans, and maybe even bullets to U.S.
backed forces in the region.

Until recently, Robertson was seen by most as just another
slick televangelist. But his soft-spoken style is misleading; his
actions speaker louder than his words.

Robertson's controversial activities include: support for
the slaughter of thousands of Indians by a Guatemalan dictator;
public praise for the reputed leader of Salvadoran death squads;
collaboration with murky U.S. mercenary groups; and the provision
of chaplains and funds to the contra army seeking to topple the
government of Nicaragua. (snip)

(snip) These bright statistics don't obscure Robertson's notorious
involvement in Central America. It began with the March 1982 coup
in Guatemala which brought General Efrain Rios Montt to power.
Montt is a member of Gospel Outreach, a fundamentalist sect based
in Eureka, California. Within a week of the coup, Robertson flew
to Guatemala to meet with Montt. (snip)

(snip) In June 1982 Montt aide Francisco Bianchi met with senior
Reagan administration officials and Christian Right leaders,
including: U.S. representative to the Organization of American
States William Middendorf, then Presidential counselor Edwin
Meese, then Interior Secretary James Watt, Ambassador to
Guatemala Fred Chapin, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Loren
Cunningham of Youth with a Mission.

Subsequently the State Department briefed Christian Right
leaders on the need for "private" support for the the Montt
regime. On the "700 Club" Robertson urged donations to
International Love Lift, an ongoing relief project sponsored by
Montt's U.S. shepherds from Gospel Outreach. Robertson also
successfully lobbied the Reagan administration to end the five-
year ban on military aid to Guatemala. (snip/...)

117. a word or 5 about "prayer"
Pat and his followers are "charismatic Christians." This is a sect which believes that the power of prayer will overcome any sin. Literally, that repeating certain phrases over and over, like a chant, especially in a large group of like-minded adepts, holding hands in a circle and concentrating very hard after being put in a "prayerful" state: i.e., a hypnotoc state of high receptivity and suggestibility.

I don't see much difference between Pat and the Druids, say, or even, God forgive me (ahem) Satanists! It's literally a white witch coven, with the open goal of making the flock "prosperous" so they mainly pray for wealth, power, and revenge. To them, it's "holy."

Now this stuff is either good or bad, depending on what you pray for. Praying that a child recover from leukemia, say , is one thing. Praying that a Supreme Court Justice dies, as Pat did a few months ago, is quite another.

Look in on one of these 700 Club prayer circles some night. Dress them in robes, hoods, and light a few candles and...you see what I mean? Bring on the sacrificial judge!

Personally, I'm praying for Scalia to be the one Pat makes die. Now that would be justice!
