NEW DELHI—Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday he would work to ensure the United States accepts a nuclear deal that allows the shipment of nuclear fuel and technology to India.

The broad nuclear deal, which was recently agreed upon by officials and lawmakers in Washington and New Delhi, has run into some resistance in both countries and must still be passed by Congress.

"I will do everything I can to help see it through the United States Senate," Lieberman, I-Conn., told reporters during a three-day visit to India. ~snip~

The senator, who met with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leaders of the opposition, said he was confident the bill would pass in both houses. ~snip~

6. How many nuclear engineering firms are in his home district?
I'm sure India only wants the nuclear power, like Libya, to power a desalination plant.

8. It is sad to see this...
Joe has been wrong on many issues and I am not one of his supporters.

However, the nuclear deal with India is good for the United States. It will create thousands of jobs locally and will reduce India's consumption of oil, which will, in turn, reduce the oil prices Americans pay.

It will also cement the relationship between two of the most powerful democracies and having an ally like India will further US national interests, especially vis à vis China.

Despite all the f*** ups by Dubya and all of his foreign policy blunders, the rapporachment with India is GOOD policy and visionary for the US. It was started by big dawg and * has furthered it.

I would be the first to blame Joe and * for all their stupidities but the India policy is a good one for the US.

9. US needs to stop trying to play India against China.
It's ridiculous. China is simply not a threat to the US. Perhaps it's a threat to that faction that wants to dominate the whole globe economically and politically, but it's not a threat to those that want peace and stability in international relations. India and China share interests as large developing countries seeking to quickly bide the gap with the advanced economies.
