HASTINGS, Neb. - Democrat Scott Kleeb has been hitting up supporters for campaign contributions this summer, but he hasn't made up his mind to run for public office again.

During the '06 campaign, Scott Kleeb chatted with Columbus Community Hospital Foundation board members. Kleeb lost the race for Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District to Republican Adrian Smith.

"It's more of a declaration to supporters from last year that I'm still engaged," Kleeb said of his fundraising e-mails and letters.

He said he is staying in touch "to let people know I didn't do what a lot of people expected me to, which was to pick up and move out of state."

Kleeb gained national attention in his losing bid last year against Adrian Smith in Nebraska's heavily Republican 3rd Congressional District. The seat was open after Rep. Tom Osborne did not seek re-election.

2. don't know but I hope he runs
He is charismatic, good looking, and just the kind of person we need as a Democrat out there in Nebraska. I think he could persuade a lot of republicans that Democrats are not demons.

3. Adrian Smith is a GOP rubber stamp
GOP rubber stamps usually keep their seats here in Nebraska. But Kleeb impressed a lot of people with his last race, and even here, people are tiring of the idiocy of the Bush misadministration.

Kleeb won't have an easy time with any race, but he seems to have the stuff to battle, and we do need some alternatives to the Rovian clones who populate our political scene.

7. He is indeed
He was the first out-of-state candidate I ever donated to. I really thought he could - and should - win. Good luck to him int he future.
