Cleland Aide Suspended After Allegedly Crashing Edwards Event
Source: Associated Press

BOSTON -- Former Sen. Max Cleland has suspended his chief of staff after the man allegedly crashed a John Edwards fundraiser on Martha's Vineyard, then broke into a nearby Coast Guard station.

...

Duga has an "extensive criminal history" in Florida, including carjacking and drug possession and dealing, according to a police report from the Chilmark police department on Martha's Vineyard.

Cleland, a Democrat from Georgia, said Wednesday that he put Duga on unpaid leave the day before and wasn't aware of Duga's criminal record.

1. Well, Max ISN'T a candidate for anything! I don't know about the
"I didn't know about his criminal record" story, but I believe Max.

2. Why does former Senator Cleland have a chief of staff?
That makes no sense.

6. Clelland is a sought after speaker and campaigner
Thus, his schedule remains quite full and he no doubt needs a chief among his employees.

3. is max running for something?
I hadn't heard. Of course, running or not, I'm not sure why he has a "chief of staff".

12. Ask Karen T
In the last campaign, Duga didn't make a move without Karen's approval and that's downright scary. I'm not sure Max realizes she's NOT every Democrat's idea of the ideal state chair.
She voted for the war on Iraq. She has said straight up that Hillary will be our candidate. And is she's so influential, how's about getting our delegates back in the selection process?

Max Cleland is one of a dwindling number of Democrats I trust.
This is just plain nasty politics and certainly not something he deserves to have to deal with.

Funny how Bush can defend his criminal cronies and it's called loyalty and when a Dem finds a snake in the cupboard and dismisses him, he still has to bear the burden or responsibility?

We are in deep trouble.

11. I volunteer and I am going to say that there are weirdos that volunteer for campaigns

that go the "extra mile" to help a candidate...and sometimes a crackpot or a criminal might get a job as a result of their campaign work. It would not surprise me if this guy didn't get the position by starting off that way.

It is so difficult to find good people to help you with a campaign that doing background checks may not seem necessary...however perhaps they should be?
