Connecticut Gov. John Rowland, facing calls for his resignation or impeachment over corruption allegations, has been ordered by federal investigators to turn over personal financial records, his spokesman said on Wednesday.

...

The 46-year-old governor faces an uncertain future since admitting he lied about having accepted free renovations to his lakeside cottage from contractors who also worked for the state.

Now a majority of voters in the small East Coast state want him to resign, a new poll showed.

"Public sentiment for Gov. Rowland's resignation has grown significantly in three weeks, from an even split to a clear majority who say he should step down," said Douglas Schwartz, director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

The poll of 1,006 registered voters taken Sunday through Tuesday found 56 percent of them want Rowland to step down. The error margin was 3.1 percentage points.

If you go to CTNow.com and register, you can see the whole poll result.

Honest and trustworthy rating= 18%
Pollers who've heard about scandal= 99%

There was an amazing scene yesterday of Rethug power.

One side of the CT State Captiol had this dirtbag Rowland saying he won't resign in the face of scandal after scandal.

The other side of the building? More troops sent off to Iraq, the first combat unit from the CT National Guard.

What power and corruption!

1. Buh-bye!
Although I'm sure that substantial kicking, screaming and hanging on to heavy furniture will be necessary before Connecticut can be declared Rowland-free.

3. Sounds like some more influential Repubs there...
Need to do what Barry Goldwater and Sen. Hugh Scott of Pa. did in marching to the White House in August 1974--they told richard Nixon he needed to resign, and pronto! Same should go for Gov. Rowland; It would be nice to see Conn. get a governor who actually reflects the state's political sentiment of late!

B-)

4. Thats the problem, Gaines
This was SPECIFICALLY discussed on the radio yesterday!

The problem is that there aren't any reuthgs OR dems like that here who he'll listen to! The public knows about this, and ackgnowledged on the radio, that Bush's cronies THEMSELVES (yeah, theyre good friends, btw) are the ONLY PEOPLE who can tell him to get the hell out AND have him do it!

Political sentiment of late??!?!?!?!?

Hartford: Dem. mayor since 1/1/1948
State offices: All dem except the top 2, that way for most of the last quarter century

Loooooooooong time comin'...

6. If Rowland vows to fight it, it's a good thing--the more he screams, and
the more that is revealed (come one, silver buried in the backyard!) the sleazier he and Repukes will look.

Fight Rowland! And take the rest of those creeps down with you!

7. The harder he fights the faster his approval numbers fall and.....
the more people want him either impeached or to resign to his riverfront cabin!

:eyes:

Rowland is a Rethug so he will never get it that the people want him out!

8. No way
I don't buy the argument that if he sticks around its worse looking for the Rethugs, especially since this was THEIR UNSTOPPABLE BOY-KING for over a DECADE!

Um...resignation looks JUST AS BAD for him! Plus, the public still doesn't support impeachment (only 46%), so it could backfire on the Dems.

The best thing for the Dems may be his resignation...all the political effect of him sticking it out without the nastiness of impeachment.

11. Yeah, but I'm not sure you realize how sleazy Rowland is--he makes Bush
looks saint-like. There is untold dirt to be had on this punk.

12. Who needs impeachment?
The Feds have an ongoing investigation. He'll get indicted in a short while (very short?) and the legislature won't have to do a thing.

14. Good point
Actually, I love the fact that EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH the Courant, a right wing Murdoch rag, has come up with a NEW piece of illegal activity.

15. Why?
Because John Rowland's not a wealthy man. And even his modest pension as governor may not be as secure as it once was. Rowland's got to be concerned about his future after he leaves office. And the GOP has the say: is the man going to get a nice position as rainmaker on the board of some nice insurance company? Because that's what he would get. However if the GOP says no, they can make sure he gets nothing. If they want, he'll never work again. And the Party leaders will tell him as much if they really want him gone.

16. let the wounded stay...
It's better to have a wounded and unpopular GOP governor than to allow a "fresh start" possibility for the GOP number two. Of course, there should be no let-up in the criticism.
