Police probe series of fires near Capitol
Source: Reuters

ASHINGTON (Reuters) - Capitol Police are investigating a series of small fires that have occurred over the past month in Senate office buildings, mostly in women's restrooms, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

A small fire early on Friday in a second-floor restroom of the Dirksen Senate office building brought to at least seven the number of confirmed fires since the beginning of October, according to Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a Capitol Police spokeswoman.

She would not discuss the possible cause of the fires, which she said were still under investigation.

Fires have been discovered in all three buildings that house senators' offices and hearing rooms, Schneider said. The buildings are adjacent to the U.S. Capitol.

3. If Homeland Security can't protect women's restrooms in the Senate, we'll have a long war on terror.

5. right, because the most complete way to destroy a document is to burn it a bathroom wastebasket
as opposed to using the shredders that are in ever freaking office.

6. We all know what this is for. bushco's investigative services are going through Senate
computers and records every time they have this building evacuated for one of these fake fires.

7. Something like that no doubt.
Or maybe they're trying to start a Reichstag fire? Seven fires is a lot of fires, although there are probably better ways of burning down an office building, especially one equipped with fire sprinklers and alarms. One of these days however they might be "testing" the fire equipment (and of course, have it all turned off, including the water) and then there will be these little wastebasket fires to show there was a pattern of penny-ante arson that just happened to burn the whole thing down. No doubt the perps will be caught and tried with great fanfare.
