Clinton says criticism goes with lead

By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer Sat Nov 3, 4:23 AM ET

CONCORD, N.H. - Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday her status as the Democratic presidential front-runner — not her gender — has led her male primary rivals to intensify their criticism of her.

"I don't think they're piling on because I'm a woman. I think they're piling on because I'm winning," Clinton told reporters after filing paperwork to appear on the New Hampshire primary ballot.

"I anticipate it's going to get even hotter, and if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. I'm very much at home in the kitchen," she said.
...........

The Clinton campaign reacted strongly to what it called "piling on." One fundraising e-mail it sent out called her "one tough woman" and decried the "six on one" nature of the debate criticism. Clinton herself referred to the "all boys club of presidential politics" in a speech at Wellesley College Thursday.............

1. so after decrying criticism as "piling on" and declaring it to be gender based
(both the "one tough woman" and "at my age having so many men pay attention..." schticks)

NOW days later she decides to say it wasn't gender based at all - now it's because she's winning.

:eyes:

It was ALWAYS because she is the front runner.

6. Hillary never said it was gender based - she gave a Women's school crowd a pep-talk & media said
her saying the school prepared her for a male controlled world was saying it was a gender issue.

Straw man - I believe that is the term for this weekends topics on the talking head shows.

the kitchen reference was in response to a quote from Truman that Chris Matthews had recently used in relation to her. I'm searching for the appropriate link and will update if I find it. It was her way of subtly slamming a man who she refuses to sit down and interview with. Both she and Bill prefer Keith. :-)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21585245/

On Thursday’s “Hardball,” Chris Matthews, a former speech writer, offered his advice to Sen. Hillary Clinton on what she should say regarding the negative backlash to her performance at NBC’s Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate.

His suggested speech is below:

"Taking the heat is what leadership is all about. As Harry Truman said, 'If you don’t like the heat, stay out of the kitchen.' ... (more at link)

the cookie reference i made was regarding her first public statement as candidate for First Lady when she said something to the effect of "you won't find me in the White House kitchen baking cookies".

Yeah, Teety bird doesn't have an original bone in his head. Sure, I knew the "Heat" quote but didn't know for sure it were Truman- thanks!
