Jerusalem sources: U.S. losing sense of urgency on Iran

03:13 04/12/2007

Government sources in Jerusalem told Haaretz Monday night that the Bush administration appears to have lost its sense of urgency regarding Iran's nuclear program, making a military strike in 2008 increasingly unlikely.

The change in policy comes on the heels of the release Monday of the National Intelligence Estimate in Washington. The report, which discounted the likelihood that Iran is on a path to develop nuclear weapons soon, did not catch the Israeli leadership by surprise. During their visit to Washington last week, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak were briefed on the report.

Political sources in Israel said Monday night that it appears that the Bush administration has lost the sense of urgency and determination to carry out a military strike against Iran in 2008. The same sources said that the United States is unlikely to strike Iran in 2008, and will make do with more severe sanctions against Tehran.

The same sources told about the Bush administration's update of Olmert, Livni and Barak last week.

1. Oh, they have not lost their urgency
they have lost their legitimacy. Plain and simple>

Do not let them spin their way into a "nucular" attack against Iran even if it is Israel that does it.

2. Yes, having your propaganda exposed by your own NIE report will tend to dampen spirits.
Poor wittle war mongers, looks like they might not get to shoot their collective wad all over the dead bodies of Iranians and God knows how many more of our service personnel.

3. yeah, no kidding!
I am disgusted by these people. How dare they try to shove another false WMD story down our throats so more American lives can be lost for what they are never truly told about.

5. Cheney's way of handing the attack off to Israel thus draggind the US into
a war that Bush and Cheney want so bad?

11. And perhaps the American government could avoid trying to drag Israel into its wars?
America is the powerful country here. Not Israel.

9. I got a whiff of that, too.
Wow - gee, it's kinda not okay to try to pick fights at the moment, 'eh? THEY'VE gotta keep THEIR powder dry for a change? They don't like it a bit, do they?

Don't worry, they'll figure out how to come back. Don't get complacent here, guys. Don't fool yourself into thinking this one's won and done. It isn't. As long as these neoCONS draw breath, they'll always want to go stampeding out there shooting first and MAYBE asking questions WAY WAY later.

16. Now Israel might have to fight their own fight. They got to
take a bit of responsibility themselves. I don't think Iran will see a difference anyway. Being attacked by one is the same as being attacked by the other.

Chimp, Overt, and, A Mean Jacket are not worth a plugged nickel. Fuck em.

12. Maybe Bush and Cheney have decided to start focussing on some other bogeynation?
Not that I like the government of Iran or want them to have nukes; but it's interesting how the Bush government always seem to exaggerate other countries' 'WMD' capability for their own ends.

13. Waaahhhh...
.... we can't Tom Sawyer the U. S. into doing our dirty work again.

Note to Israel - when you get a sense of urgency about solving your effing problems, maybe we can get a sense of urgency about helping.
