Judith Nathan got security earlier
Source: NY Daily News

Judith Nathan got taxpayer-funded chauffeur services from the NYPD earlier than previously disclosed - even before her affair with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani was revealed, witnesses and sources tell the Daily News.

"It went on for months before the affair was public," said Lee Degenstein, 52, a retired Smith Barney vice president who formerly lived at 200 E. 94th St., Nathan's old building.

"It was going on longer than anybody thought," added Degenstein, who, along with others in the neighborhood, said they often saw Nathan hopping into unmarked NYPD cars in early 2000, before the affair was revealed that May.

When pressed by The News Thursday, aides to the Republican presidential hopeful conceded that Nathan got police protection "sporadically" before December 2000 - the previously acknowledged beginning of her taxpayer-funded detail.

1. There was apparently significant overlap.. Rudy had both his
wife and his mistress drawing from the public well at the same time...

2. The cops even carried her packages
(snip)

Other residents at the building said they often saw Nathan coming and going with two well-dressed drivers, who occasionally toted her packages.

"She was always coming back with shopping bags from the different well-known stores in New York," said Jacqueline Elman, a building resident for 12 years who walked her dog regularly and often spotted Nathan, who became the third Mrs. Giuliani in 2003.

(snip)

Degenstein, a self-proclaimed police buff, said it wasn't hard to identify Nathan's city-funded wheels as an unmarked police car.

"The windows were all blacked out, it had several antennas affixed to the trunk and of course had the orange E-ZPass stuck in the front windshield," said Degenstein, referring to the special colored toll devices affixed to city cars.

5. Why would she have been threatened
when no one even knew who she was at that time? Her picture hadn't been in the newspaper yet.

8. Did the cops cook and clean as well?
What a deal - chauffeurs, dog walkers and package carriers. Sorry, I still wouldn't have "done" Rudy. Yechhhh!

10. Take a look at the sidebar...
The summary of known dates when cars and drivers were provided comes under the title "Driving Miss Judi" -- a play on the film "Driving Miss Daisy". When the Alan Hevesi scandal became hot, the tabloids (NY Post included) had a field day with "Driving Mrs. Hevesi" titles until he resigned. The key to a story like this is not just the seriousness of the scandal, its also whether it can be netted down to a simple issue for the public to absorb, combined with a catch title. We may have just hit paydirt.

13. Is this story being widely covered?
I know Keith Olbermann has covered it well, and Tweety has given a few seconds to it on his show while he's not drooling over Huckabee or Romney. I assume the New York papers are covering it, too, since it occurred in their back yard. Other than that, is the general public even aware of this scandal?

12. You guys have it all wrong
She is Princess Judi! Americans don't know nothing about how to treat royalty.

Why should the NYPD fight crime? They had/have a Princess to take care of. The citizens of NY should feel proud that their hard earned tax money goes to protect their Princess. How many other American cities have their own Princess?

14. Guliani's house of cards coming down
Why did the Repubes not see this coming? This guy has more
moral lapses than Bill Bennett (of "Book of Virtues"
fame). Wasting tax-payer money so he could have his adulterous
fling? What a pathetic disgrace. Unfortunately, many of the so
called "values voters" will be more than happy to
overlook his indiscretions to get a hawk in office.
