Bush To Name Former Conservative Commentator Glassman To Sell U.S. Image Abroad
Source: Associated Press

President Bush intends to name a well-known conservative commentator and journalist to lead the State Department's struggling efforts to improve the U.S.'s image abroad, replacing long-time confidante Karen Hughes, who is leaving government by the end of the year, The Associated Press has learned.

--
Glassman was chosen in part because he has already won Senate confirmation for his current job, which he began in June, and the administration was looking for someone who could avoid a bruising confirmation fight in an election year, the officials said.

If confirmed, Glassman would take over an outreach operation that has been criticized for being ineffective, particularly in the Muslim world.

--
Glassman should be familiar with the challenges facing the top U.S. pitchman. He served in 2003 on the congressionally mandated Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy for the Arab and Muslim World, officials noted.

In addition to his work with the Broadcasting Board of Governors, Glassman is a fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute think tank in Washington and publisher of the group's magazine, The American.

22. I guess Mr "Dow 30,000" gets another chance to lie his ass off!
Sure, you replace one liar (Karen) with another (Glassman). I still remember when this asshole was all over the Main$tream Media pushing for the elimination of Social Security. He wanted the free market to force everyone to save or else. Now that's so easy to do when you make a six figure salary at Pravda on the Potomac.

2. Honestly, why are they bothering? They've wasted any good feelings
anyone might have about the US by now. He'd improve our image only if he resigned.

7. It takes a special kind of stupid
to be the navigator of a sinking ship and think the solution is to contact the people who taught you how to navigate.

The AEI. Well isn't that just a kick in the teeth. There couldn't be a bigger fuck you to this country.

lies rather than their own observations and experiences. The * admin. has been giving US citizens and the entire world the middle finger for seven years--now some PR babble is going to make a difference?

9. The Bushies still think the rest of the world is as weak and ignorant as the Subjects they rule
Edited on Mon Dec-10-07 08:04 PM by tom_paine
That may well be, but only to THEIR OWN TYRANTS.

Bushies will find a hard sell trying to propagandize them the way they have Amerika.

First off, they cannot bully and intimidate the global media (other than their plants and propagandists, which one assumes is a MUCH smaller proportion of the total than in Amerikan Infoganda) to accept and propagate Bushie Lies, misleading frames, smears, and half-truths with key omission.

Second, that natural gullibility we Imperial Subjects have to our TVs is primarily because, for a brief period in history, our media actually did (sort of...everything is relative remember) speak truth to power and try to protect the citizenry by exposing corruption and lies.

The Bushies leech off that old-time journalism even as they helped eradicate it.

The point is, because of that, Bushie Lies "start at third base" because hey, if a hot anchor chick or dude is saying it, sitting behind a desk with a clock behind them, it MUST be true!

The Bushies will not have that head-start in other nations around the world.

But you knwo the only thing that matters to the Bushies in "on message repetition". They think if they keep doing that, eventually, as in Amerika, the lies will be laundered into Convetional Wisdom.

It still might work like that, though somehow I doubt it.

Just sayin...

The only thing that will help restore the US image is to prosecute everyone involved in outing a CIA officer, the illegal war, destroying evidence...and the list goes on....
