CNN Poll: Obama catches Clinton in New Hampshire
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Barack Obama has chipped away at Hillary Clinton's lead in New Hampshire locking the Democrats in a statistical tie a month before the first presidential primary, according to a CNN/WMUR Poll released Wednesday.

Clinton has dropped 5 percentage points since a previous CNN/WMUR survey in November, while Obama has gained 8 percentage points, according to the poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. Clinton is now at 31 percent to Obama's 30 percent. New Hampshire's primary is set for January 8.

Clinton's 5-percentage point drop appears to have been largely due to the loss of support among women.

"Clinton's support among Democratic women in New Hampshire has dropped from 43 percent to 33 percent," Holland said. "By contrast, her support among men dropped only 1 point to 27 percent in that same time period."

While I'm a Clinton supporter, I'm worried she's going to feel the need to go negative to pull this out.

1. I suspect a larger problem for Hillary in New Hampshire will be
the independent voters which are a rather large block. In any case, I think all the polls are suspect this year because cell phones aren't polled and many, many people no longer have land lines. In addition, I think Kucinich's Ron Paul statement has driven some of his supporters over to Obama and Edwards.

2. The large independent block is why...
I was befuddled by her campaign pushing a recent ad in which it focuses on criticizing Obama's HC plan. I would imagine that independents would be more skeptical of hers due to mandates.

4. Good, I'm almost to the point of anybody BUT....
Because Hillary is a guaranteed 4 more years of these right wing war mongers
calling the shots, Literally !

Bill’s new golfing partner George Sr. must really be dismayed by this news.
Perhaps Murdick will pull her funding if her numbers keep going down.
Lets hope so !

6. Obama will never be elected if he wins the nomination.
The result will be chaos either way. If he loses we will be in hell with the neocons another eight years or forever, once they cement their illegal activities. If he should win (this is an extremely long shot) his inexperience will make him a dupe of these same crooks. The dem party will be fractured, and the pugs will take full advantage. Either way, we lose. This is the reason I could not support Dennis. We have to have someone who can beat the pugs. I think Hillary is the best bet; but, Edwards is my next choice. Obama is not a man for this time. I do not trust him and I certainly believe he is much too young to lead us out of the desert. Mark my words and bookmark this post. If he wins, it will be disasterous.

A lot of people on DU like to refer to Hill as a triangulator. Understand, she has to be a leader for all of the people. In Louisiana, we have had to put up with Mary Landrieu, who plays both ends against the middle, because she has the Catholic interest and oil interest in our state to satisfy, all the time. While I detest some of her decisions, I do understand why she makes them. You cannot govern for only one segment of the population. Progressivism is great, but does not make up the majority of the people in this country. We have a leader(?) now who only represents one segment of our society, and it sure as hell isn't the religious. We all know he is a corporatist and a pretend Christian. What a lot of you see as a weakness in Hillary, is instead her greatest strength. If we do not elect this brilliant and gifted woman, we will live to regret it. Please, do mark my words.

7. It won't work that way
I see your point. But although Hillary is willing to stand up to the Republicans, I don;t think she'll be able to beat them. There's just too much ill-will towards her personally. And I don't think she's strong enough to overcome that.

8. I think your political premise of passive and concedes to the right.
Reagan won and governed over a country without a conservative right majority, and helped to reshape the politics. Millions of people are profoundly NOT ideological. A president does not have to cater to the right wing to govern effectively. We do not need consensus - we need political power in the hands of those who will make the right decisions and who know how to do what it takes to keep that political power in the right hands.

11. I agree with you.
Hillary needs to campaign to the center. Once she gets in, she can work for a progressive majority.
FDR did not campaign as far left as he governed. He gradually changed once he one the office.

12. Hillary enabled war crimes, torture, warrantless searches, & infringement of civil liberties
If she is rejected by the voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Caroline, we should all say "Good Riddance" to the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton dynasty.

13. naysaying and fearmongering
i'm perfectly ok voting for the candidate of my choice, even if this dumb ass nation votes in the opposite. And if they do...let them reap what they sow.

But I'll be damned if I collaborate to that "let's settle for" mentality.

hooray for Obama!

16. The only thing that can stop this slide we're in is with a completely new attitude...
...Obama and Edwards bring that, Hilary doesn't.
