Bush to veto health insurance bill
Source: Yahoo News

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Wednesday was ready to veto legislation that passed with bipartisan support to dramatically expand government-provided health insurance for children.

It would be Bush's seventh veto in seven years. Bush vetoed an earlier version of the health insurance program.

The bill passed the Democratic-controlled Senate by a veto-proof margin, but the same was not true in the House. Even after the bill was approved, negotiations continued on a compromise version.

A major point of contention with the White House was Bush's demand that nearly all poor children eligible for the program be found and enrolled before those in slightly higher-income families could be covered

15. My sentiments exactly. Call 202-456-1111.
That's the White House comment line.

And Bush's sanctimonious little press secretary is already intoning about how they care so much for children that they have to veto this version of the SCHIP bill. But the compassionate conservative shtick would work if we couldn't point to billions of dollars in wasted funds in Iraq -- with more demanded from the administration, no strings attached.

At least Scrooge was forthright in his misanthropy and miserliness. The Bush administration clowns want us to believe they're pure and holy and have the best of intentions. I only hope history gives them the treatment they deserve.

2. If this is not covered intensely by TV Media, it will have
no negative impact on GOP or Bush.

6. So the bushes veto a helping hand to the middle class and poor, yet bails out the banks.
"The Fed said that it was creating a temporary auction facility to make funds available to banks and was also setting up lines of credit with the European Central Bank and the Swiss Central Bank that could be used for additional resources."

How about creating a fund to bail out the middle class and poor people who are going bankrupt over medical bills? We need liquidity as much as the con artists who call themselves banks.

Welfare for the rich. Welcome to the nanny state that holds the hands of bankers and ignores the welfare of its citizens.

7. If I'm not mistaken, I think the insurance companies support this bill
I don't think they are leading the charge up the mountain, but I remember hearing that they support the bill.

8. So what happens next? Do we over-ride this?
I find it hard to believe that we have a veto-proof super-majority in the senate but not the house. Is this going to be passed or not?

9. There should be a public referendum to deny medical insurance
for all members of Congress, the executive and judicial branches of government.

To me it's simple, you want to live off the Treasury, do unto others as you would have done to you...:)

13. Amazing how
he only found his pen to veto stuff *after* the democrats took control of congress and the senate but he was more than willing to rubber stamp anything the republicans passed when they controlled the senate and congress.
