Chemical Explosion Prompts Evacuation at News Corp. Building


NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Firefighters responded to a chemical explosion Monday morning on the 45th floor of a Midtown high rise.

The explosion occurred at the News Corp. building located at 1211 Sixth Ave. One person was injured, and three floors below the site were evacuated. It was unclear what type of chemical was involved.

Fire and Hazmat crews responded to the scene.

Report: Chemical explosion at Fox News HQs in Manhattan
There was a "chemical explosion" this morning at the headquarters of Fox News Channel in Manhattan, according to CNN.

The network, which says it confirmed this report with the fire department, is reporting that four floors were evacuated. Some 700 people have fled the building, including at least one person who was burned in the blast, the local Fox station reports.

Update at 11:47 a.m. ET: Fox News Channel is still broadcasting. The network reports that the chemical explosion occurred on the 45th floor of the building.

Updates at 11:52 a.m. ET: WNYW-TV says there are "reports that the explosion happened in a cooling station in the building."

It seems to me that lots of places where the Bush administration would like to have "ears" gets evacuated for varioud reasons. Clinton campaign, WTC, Kerry campaign, and so on. Maybe I'm too sensitive to these things, but it just seems to me like these evacuations are not coincidences.

Fox News must be in need of monitoring now. Fascism cannot trust even its own.

52. UPDATE: 1 hurt in explosion in heating area of building that houses Fox News

NEW YORK - A small chemical explosion has been reported the building that houses Fox News in New York City.

Officials say one person has been hurt and three floors of the 47-storey building have been evacuated. The explosion happened at 10:39 a.m. on the building's 45th floor, which houses the heating and cooling systems.

Fire spokesman Jim Long says there was some sort of reaction between two chemicals that caused a slight explosion.

The building is the headquarters for NewsCorp and houses both Fox News and the New York Post.

Fox News is in the basement and continued broadcasting without interruption.
