Large Explosions Rock Central Baghdad
Large Explosions Rock Central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Large explosions rocked central Baghdad late Monday, and Iraqi and U.S. security officials said at least two mortars exploded near the Baghdad Hotel.
A U.S. security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there were no casualties from the blasts, which occurred near Saadoun Street in the center of the capital. He said the Baghdad Hotel was not hit.

The Baghdad Hotel was the site of an Oct. 12 suicide car bombing that killed eight people and wounded more than 30.

1. How is Saddam directing these attacks from jail?
How does he manage to do that. It must be so, because Rummy told us the attacks would stop when Saddam was out of the picture, didn't he?

2. Saddam was clever...
... He recruited an army of people who hear voices in their heads, and trained them to hear HIS voice only.

5. Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now and then
Sooner or later these mortar attacks are going to do some real damage, if they haven't already.

10. Sad but true.
So far we have been lucky.

One of these days scores will get killed from an shot.

Unless we get out now a real massive death toll is just
a bad roll of the dice away.

8. ...Most of the deaths have occurred since May 1
Now the press is starting to say:

"...which raised the American death toll to 495. Most of the deaths have occurred since President Bush declared an end to major combat on May 1."

You remember: "Mission Accomplished"

I can't wait until we have nominee to hammer away at * instead of the other Dems.

11. While any casualties
are terrible, this war hasn't given us too many yet when compared to the wars of our past. If we quit now they will have been in vain. We should at least make Iraq a democracy first, if we leave we will be doing just what the terrorists want us to do. And yes, these are terrorists attacking us and not Saddam's loyalists (for the most part).

12. There is absolutely no way...
...that you are old enough to remember Vietnam.

If you were, you wouldn't be able to say what you just said with a straight face.

13. Look at Vietnam
It took 2-3 yrs for US losses to reach 500 in the early 60's. We've passed that number in less than 1 year.

"And yes, these are terrorists attacking us and not Saddam's loyalists (for the most part)."

What do you base this hypothesis on?

14. Similiarly, the protests against this war..
.. reached high numbers much faster than the Vietnam war did too.

15. How come....

explosions always "rock" Baghdad? Don't they ever "bounce" "bump" "shake" "rattle" "roll" etc?
Every time I see a news article, it's always "rock".

Then, when you read on, you see that it is just a couple mortars.
Those don't "rock" a whole city. A gasoline tanker blew up in our city a few weeks ago, and it didn't even make news anywhere in the world except for the local paper. It "rattled" the town.

The point I'm trying to make is, why are these reporter's trying to dramatize this in this way? Why can't they just say "Resistance continues" or something like that? or, "No relief to Occupation as mortars explode in Baghdad"

I don't know, It just me I guess....Reading too many headlines and end up reading a story that doesn't match it.
