1. Oops
LONDON, Jan 12 (Reuters) - The United States Air Force is investigating how one of its fighter jets dropped an unarmed bomb onto the countryside in northern England last week, a spokesman said on Monday.

There were no injuries and only "limited property damage" in the incident, which happened near the town of Market Weighton in Yorkshire at around 1715 GMT on Thursday, the air force spokesman said.

The 25 lb (11 kg) practice bomb was dropped by a F-15E Strike Eagle on a routine training run from a base in eastern England.

5. Good grief.
Well, according to the way we operate, I think we should simply tell them to "get over it!"

What a stupid shame.

8. There were no injuries and only "limited property damage"
Well, thanks for small favors but I wonder who is defining what "limited property damage" is? "Well mate, it took out your living room and 2 bedrooms but the garage and the kitchen are still intact so would it be ok if we put in our report that there was limited property damage?"

10. That's about as out in the middle of nowhere as you can get
Some ancestors of my husband's came from the next town over (back in 1772), so I've looked at maps of the area a bit. It's really thinly populated -- just the sort of place the US military would get permission to do their test bombing runs. But it sounds like this time the test got a little out of hand.

The British have been slowly waking up to the fact that their country has in many respects become just a US military base. (I read a really scathing article on this a few months ago.) This may serve to wake them up a bit faster.

11. I bet the Queen is not amused.
If this had happened a month or so ago...well, maybe she would have insisted Junior clean up this mess...along with the one he made at her Buckingham palace gardens during his state visit.
