Court Puts Restrictions on Phone Suits

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court voted unanimously to restrict when consumers can sue over bad telephone service, a victory for regional phone companies.

In the ruling released Tuesday, the justices held that consumers cannot use federal antitrust laws in suits claiming that regional phone companies provide substandard service to rivals, which hurts customers of those rivals.

Scalia predicted many and complex disputes over the relationships, if lawsuits were allowed.

``An antitrust court is unlikely to be an effective day-to-day enforcer of these detailed sharing obligations,'' he wrote.


Seems to me, that it is pretty presumptuous for Scalia to assume what is the best thing for three hundred million people, but maybe it's just the problem that he does know (divine intervention again?)
