Des Moines RegisterMason City, Ia.- Democrat Bill Richardson rallied supporters and wooed undecided party members Wednesday in a seven-city, statewide blitz to wrap up his Iowa campaign, pledging to unite a divided America.
The New Mexico governor, joined by his wife, Barbara, began his day greeting voters at breakfast in Muscatine and was scheduled to finish Wednesday night with a rally at an Iowa City restaurant. They also flew aboard a small passenger jet to Dubuque, Decorah, Mason City, Storm Lake and Centerville.
Richardson, who was dressed in a turtleneck and a heavy blue shirt, repeated his vow to withdraw all American troops from Iraq within one year of reaching the White House.
"Until we end this war, we can't come together as a country. That is why I have made this war the centerpiece of my campaign,"
Richardson and his wife thanked supporters and campaign workers at each stop. They expressed optimism about his prospects in today's Iowa caucuses, based on his background and experience. He has served five years as New Mexico's governor, plus as a congressman, as U.S. energy secretary and as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
