Hunter says he’s in GOP presidential race to stay (THE DREAM IS STILL ALIVE)
Source: CNN

Posted: 02:53 PM ET
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CNN) — California Rep. Duncan Hunter said Monday he will stay in the 2008 presidential race despite dismal showings in Iowa and published polls, blasting the television “knucklehead” who cut him from weekend debates in New Hampshire.

“The voters will have to decide when this campaign is over,” said Hunter, the ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee and the panel’s former chairman. “So that means no matter what happens in New Hampshire, I’m off to South Carolina.”

He criticized the “arrogant corporate executives” at the ABC and Fox News networks who cut him out of candidate debates over the weekend, even though the single delegate he won in Saturday’s GOP caucuses in Wyoming gave him more delegates than two rivals with better ratings in national polls — Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

2. As a Kucinich supporter, I feel his pain
It's also surprising to me that the Wyoming caucus (for Republicans) has been so completely overlooked. Maybe the media found Wyoming too inconvenient to cover? For those of you who are curious, the results were: Romney 67%, Thompson 25%, Hunter 8%. (The Democratic date is March 8. I don't know whether it's a primary or a caucus, nor do I know why the dates are different.)

The intellectual level of the Republican debates would probably be higher if a doctrinaire conservative like Hunter were present. As with Kucinich on the Democratic side, a candidate who has little chance to win but who speaks for a good chunk of the party's base can help to keep the front-runners focused on issues instead of haircuts and inadequate tips and the like.

4. I don't think the Wyoming caucus was overlooked. We know where
those Electoral Votes are going. Places like Iowa and NH are in play. Even SC is probably in play...and if it is not, it just prooves my point candidates shouldn't waste time in the states they will not carry. Why go to Utah? Okay, a stop over for our dem rep in the SLC area is probably a good idea. But if some state wants to have one party dominance they shouldn't expect candidates with scarce resources to go there.

We have an Electoral College system and we need to deal with that reality.

14. Yeah, who the hell is this guy?
Wait! Without knowing anything, let me guess:

White guy, in his fifties. Strong connections to large business interests. Hates the EPA, the Forest Service, Indians, immigrants and abortion. Probably working on his second or third wife and mistress by now--unless he likes dudes.

He's probably financially obligated to continue his campaign to cover for the twelve plasma-screen televisions he's installed in his mansion.

Okay, now I'll look him up on Wikipedia and see how I did.

15. Not bad.
I got close:

He's 59, a military-industrofascist in the pocket of DuPont Aerospace, among others. Hates environment, check; hates immigrants, check; hates abortion, check. The HRC, which incorporates Native American issues into their rating, gives him a 0%. Check.

Seems he's had only one wife, which combined with his homophobic voting record means he's almost certainly a rump-rider.

His house burned down in 2003, so he probably bought his plasma screens early.

9. I saw him campaign yesterday in NH...
...at a Jewish community group forum. It sounded like he was running for Israeli Prime Minister with his pandering about the Golan Heights and Interceptor missles for Jerusalem. Bill Richardson got 10 times more applause and mentioned Israel only once.
