NOLA Org Endorsement: John Edwards Will 'Kick Republicans In The Balls'
Source: Huffington Post

By Karen Dalton-Beninato

Gulf Coast voters have an Edwards endorsement today from Levees Not War with the unambiguous headline, "Democrats need a tough candidate who won't hesitate to kick the Republicans in the balls." They say:
"It is not often we wish we lived in New Hampshire (nice place to visit), but we sorely wish we could be there on Tuesday to 'vote early and often' for John Edwards . . . It is not only that John Edwards had the good sense and correct priorities to launch his campaign for the presidency from New Orleans (take note, presidential debate site committee). And it's not just Edwards' plan to remove all U.S. troops from Iraq within 10 months--something his competitors haven't offered. We don't favor Edwards only because he alone has spoken consistently as a populist public defender against the 'iron grip' of corporate special interests on Washington. Nor is he our favorite merely because he has the best health care plan (Paul Krugman's praise sounds right to us).

We vote for John Edwards for all of these reasons, but especially because Democrats need a tough, combative lead candidate to whip the Republicans, who are vicious fighters in a presidential campaign--especially when they're desperate. Barack Obama is marvelous and would also be a good president, but we worry he doesn't have the aggressiveness to kick the Republican operatives in the balls, the way they always do to Democrats. In Nov. 2004 it was Edwards the courtroom attorney who wanted to challenge the Ohio vote counts before conceding, but John Kerry decided otherwise.

John Edwards has the optimism, the intelligence, and the gut-fire and bulldog tenacity to get the job done . . . He's also a realist. He knows the status quo won't give an inch without a struggle. About dealing with corporate interests such as the drug and oil and insurance companies, he says, "Some people argue that we're going to sit at a table with these people and they're going to voluntarily give their power away. I think it is a complete fantasy; it will never happen." We often say 'We Want Roosevelt Again.' We know we're not going to get Franklin Delano, but in John Edwards we see just about the closest thing to FDR we've seen in many years."

You bet! Edwards will kick some elephant butt if he is the nominee.

Vote for the rebuilding of NOLA and the middle class in America!

36. As far as I know, it was Grover Norquist who coined that phrase.
And every web-search 'hit' I've found, confirms it.

But as for "Edwards kicking him in the balls", I'm sure that referred to EYE-balls, which is equally painful. Try BOTH on a friend, and I'm sure he'll agree!

4. I agree!
Other candidates have been speaking of reaching across the isle and willing to work on compromise. Which I normally would fully agree with. However this country needs a president that will NOT compromise.

Why? Because we cannot compromise when restoring the constitution. Restoring the constitution is an all or nothing task. Personally I think Edwards is our best chance to restore the constitution and this country.

16. JE Is The Man!
NOLA has it figured out correctly, good for them. The way to take down a bully is not to play nice with them, to appease them, ala Reid and Pelosi - and maybe Obama from things he's said.

The Bush crime family and all their wingnut tools and Corporate fat cats need to be taken to the woodshed, and John Edwards will do that.

wimps, namby-bamby mealy-mouthed serial apologizers... and the plan is to move to the right, embrace the knuckledraggers that have brought the country to its knees while abandoning the left? How's that saying go, the only thing in the middle of the road is dead armadillos? This centrism is a lie. Now they're touting Bloomberg has someone to come in and snatch the middle that everyone seems to think is unrepresented. Screw the center. They voted for Reagan, and got him, twice. They kept Clinton on his Lewinsky leash. They put the kabosh on Gore. We did the 1000 points of light and the compassionate conservatism - America, where has it gotten you?

Barack Obama is marvelous and would also be a good president, but we worry he doesn't have the aggressiveness to kick the Republican operatives in the balls, the way they always do to Democrats.

How about noting that it's audaciaous to THINK that HOPE would have any influence with the Right??? Either we get a FIGHTER in the Blight House, or we're doomed. Either we get someone in there that sports a clean bill of health (as opposed to being infected with corporate parasites!) or we are AT BEST, compromised!

71. Maybe it's pre-emptive surrender. The dems have figured out how to stop saying they're sorry
And pre-emptively surrender to the Republicans instead of having to capitulate bill by bill. Oops, I'm sorry. I apologize...

Don't you love how the CORPORATE media military psy-ops spin machine is convincing the country that the ONLY problem is the bitter divisivness that keeps anything from getting done? Hello, America. A LOT has been accomplished. The problem is that it's all been at your expense. This hope and unity crap is their way of keeping power. If you can convince the dems to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, you can have them pre-emptively surrender even though the might be getting ready to gain control of the WH and congress. Don't you think they could get something done then? Something for the people they supposedly represent?

(not yelling at you, Plucketter. I'm yelling at the dems.)

40. We don't need hollow campaign platitudes...
market tested, like Obama's "we're riding the wave", today.

We need a Trial attorney, who like me, knows the enemy: CORPORATIONS and CORPORATISTS selling out this Country and it's Constitution for profit.

I don't want a candidate who takes corporate money or who wants to sit at a table with Repigs and sing Koombayah.

I want to knock Rethugs and Conservatism back to the STONE AGE. This is what makes our man Edwards dangerous and why he is being marginalized.

Tsk, tsk, no courage of pro-Obamites in this thread....

Although Edwards would be a great fighter with the punch to knock the Republicans back into the Stone Age, it would be a redundant chore, since most of them inhabit it already.

Witness Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. John Cornyn of Texas. Ted Stevens. Jim Dobson. Etc.

I'm in this gaggle here because I like reading benny05's posts. I've received a genuine welcome from a lot of people in the Edwards group on DU and benny05 was among the first responders.

47. I think a lot of people who think Obama's going to win this thing
are letting the Edwards folks have their last night of viability. If the Rasmussen poll is anywhere near correct, the finish will be Obama, Clinton, and Edwards, in that order, separated by about ten points apiece. John Edwards might try to hold on till South Carolina, but he and Hillary will split the never-will-vote-for-a-black-man Democratic vote there.

Enjoy yourselves for another twenty hours or so.

52. I posted something about Obama being
the "Kumbaya" candidate the other day and was told my comment was "beneath contempt." I'm glad to see someone else say it. His naive meme that he can reach out to and work with repukes is laughable. They are about as interested in bipartisanship as they are in universal single-payer health care - in other words, not at all.

We need a candidate who will stand up to these thugs. We need Edwards.

Finally, somebody lays it out straight! Tenacity and fearlessness are exactly what I like about Edwards and it's what we want to see in Democrats.

No more triangulating.

No more worrying about the media tools.

No excuses.

No apologies.

Just a solid punch in the nads.

61. I'm sincerely at a loss
when I hear Obama talk about reaching across the isle. So far the only reaching we've had is the hand pushing back any hope of legislation getting through. And then you have the added bonus of Bush and his veto.

But really, are Republicans going to admit they were wrong and roll over?

63. What a friggin' joke!
If past performance is any indication, Edwards will be licking, rather than kicking.

I wonder how the Katrina victims in NOLA foreclosed on by the sub-prime lenders that Edwards invested half his net worth in feel about him, these days?

I'm absolutely sure that they haven't been asked and I'm positive that Edwards couldn't care less.

The number of Democrats taken in by Edwards' newly-found faux-Progressive Poplism scares the crap out of me.

64. By "newly-found" you mean what... five or six years ago?

69. Sure - 5 or 6 or even 7 years ago:
You remember, when Johnny-Come-Lately voted for the Bankruptcy Reform Bill, Homeland Security Act, Patriot Act, China Trade, Use of Military Force, etc...

I wouldn't mind Edwards so much if he wasn't such an awful LIAR regarding the hedge fund/sup-prime lenders fiasco. How anyone can believe that he sank $16 million (fully half his net worth at the time) into a hedge fund management group he was working for for over a year (for $459,000+$150,000 in donations) without knowing that the fund specialized in leveraging sub-prime lenders leaves me absolutely flabbergasted. I certainly and devoutly hope that not ALL progressives will be so easily flim-flammed.

I do not know if I can support any of the top 3, given their respective voting histories. None of them have anything to be proud about, there. There is just not much of a difference between the three, in my opinion.

I think it will come down to a choice between Edwards and Clinton, however, in the end.

Either an empty bag of promises or a bag of empty promises.

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose, bien sur!

70. I don't think anyone's being "flim flammed".
People are making their own judgments. There are no saints in politics, and definitely no perfect people.
