Huckabee: Halt Immigration from Terror States
Source: ABC News

ABC News' Kevin Chupka, Kirit Radia, and Teddy Davis Report: While campaigning Tuesday in South Carolina, former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee called for ending immigration from countries that sponsor or harbor terrorists.

"There's a couple of things that were going to do differently," said Huckabee, "I say we ought to put a hiatus on people who come here and give them permits, if they come from countries that sponsor and harbor terrorists. Let's say until you get your act in order, and we get our act in order, we're not going to just let you keep coming and threaten the future and safety of America."

Huckabee's sweeping proposal goes farther than anything offered thus far by any of his G.O.P. rivals. It represents a further shift to the right on immigration for someone who, as Arkansas governor has, backed in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. His shift to the right on immigration began last month when he unveiled an immigration proposal which would require illegal immigrants to register within 120 days and to leave the country before gaining legal status in the United States.

Huckabee policy adviser Jim Pinkerton sought to downplay the scope of Huckabee's comments by arguing that Huckabee had called for a "thorough review" rather than a "hiatus."

...

In articulating the rationale for his new policy, Huckabee mangled some of his facts. "Every one of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 came here legally," said Huckabee. "Our government welcomed them in."

4. So according to Hucklenuts...
since the terrorists went to McDonald's and had a #3 value meal
then every McDonald's should be closed down for giving
aid and support to the enemy (???).

What a stupid fucking hucklenut this guy is.

5. Ironically, none of the 9/11 Hijackers came from countries that the US recognizes as "Terror States"

10. So in other words, every citizen of those countries is to be treated
as if they were a terrorist, just because of the actions of a few of their countrymen.

Yeah, that'll decrease the ill will toward the US and decrease the number of terrorists. :sarcasm:

11. Well since Saudi Arabia isn't on the "terrorist sponsor" list, how would this have helped on 9-11?
Huckleberry doesn't make any sense at all sometimes.

12. We all can easily see the foolishness of his words. But, will most Americans stop to realize this?
I'm not convinced they will.

I run into people quite often who don't still don't know that the majority of 9/11 hijackers we're Saudi and not Afghan or Iraqi.

There was too little attention paid to facts at the time and far too much propaganda. It's left behind a lot of confused people in the US who are unsure of what was real and what was falsely implied.

14. Terror states? Would that include Arkansas?
But let's see his point: if a state is truly practicing terror, then we of couse would not want to grant asylum to citizens of said states fleeing said terror. Right? ;-)

16. I'm assuming that we'd make exceptions for political refugees?
and people fleeing human rights abuses?

Or could it be that Hickabee hasn't thought it trough all the way?

17. Most terrorists end up coming from states that aren't officially considered "terrorist sponsoring"

from the State Department.

This includes the nationalities of the 9/11 hijackers who were from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and from one other country I think...

And much of the terrorism is emanating from Pakistan, which is constantly referred to as a "chief ally in the war on terror".

But never mind. Facts are messy and get in the way of a true faith based foreign policy. Between this and his cluelessness about Pakistan's location on a world map, he'd be a more amicable Bush. Maybe Ms. Teen South Carolina should have mentioned that he needs a map.
