Bush wary of jeopardizing Iraq gains
Source: AP

LAS VEGAS - President Bush said Thursday he will not jeopardize security gains in Iraq by withdrawing U.S. forces too fast, another signal that troop reductions could slow or stop altogether this summer.

The president said he would resist any temptation to bring troops home to score political points with a war-weary public or compromise with Democrats in Congress seeking to wind down the war.

The U.S. troop commitment is expected to be down to roughly 130,000 to 135,000 by July, the same number as before Bush sent in reinforcements a year ago.

You know, a lot of folks say, What's next, Mr. President?'" Bush said. "And my answer is, we have come too far in this important theater in this war on terror not to make sure that we succeed. Any therefore, any further troops reductions will be based on commanders and conditions.

"The temptation of course is for people to, you know, say 'Make sure you do the politically right thing,'" Bush told members of the Nevada Policy Research Institute. "That's not my nature. That's not exactly what we're going to do."

12. Ahh, forgot about the oil, of course that is the answer to the word "gains"
No one mentions how much oil is being pumped and sold. Isn't that what the whole country is about, oil?

13. I think the oil is being pumped
and hid. If they sold it, supply goes up, price goes down. The speculators don't want that oil on the market at all- keeps the price high.

2. Iraq is worse off now than when we invaded...
...illegally, I might add.

Iraq can only gain by our leaving.

5. "We've come to far...not to make sure we succeed"
Sidestepping the grammatical nightmare that is this sentence, and par for the course for this most unintelligible of Presidents, can someone in the Administration pin down what 'succeed' actually means? They keep watering it down since '03, now simply meaning less violence.
At every turn, Bush moves the goalposts. Dead or Alive, smoke 'em out, once they have elections, when they stand up..., now it's simply 'less violence?'

Earth to Prez, Saddam kept the street violence pretty low. Anyone catch the quote from, I believe a Heritage Foundation spokesman, who said the new conservative thinking is that Iraq should have a 'strongman' to keep order?
Holy full circle Batman. If so, then what were the past 5 years about??

Yeah, we know.
