Gazprom says it will stop selling Russian gas to Ukraine on Monday unless debts paid

MOSCOW (AP) - State-controlled natural gas company OAO Gazprom said Thursday it would cut off supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine if millions of dollars in debts were not paid by Monday, but said such a move would not affect other European customers.


Most of Ukraine's gas comes from Central Asia through Gazprom pipelines. But this year Ukraine has bought some Russian-origin gas and that is what Gazprom said it would cut on Monday.

Gazprom said Ukraine currently owes about US$1.5 billion for Russian gas.

1. I'm not sure I agree that
"such a move would not affect other European customers"
The pipelines go through the Ukraine and in 2006 the Ukraine either tapped the pipelines or shut them down over the last dispute they had.
