Islamic preacher Abu Hamza al-Masri is to be extradited to the US to face terror charges, the Home Office said.

The Egyptian-born preacher is currently serving a seven-year jail term in the UK for inciting murder and race hate.

The 49-year-old from west London is wanted by the American authorities on 11 charges.

City of Westminster Magistrates Court approved the extradition in November but the decision had to be ratified by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

LONDON - Britain's Home Office on Thursday approved the extradition of an Islamic preacher who is accused of trying to establish a terrorist training camp in Oregon, a spokesman said.
Abu Hamza al-Masri once led London's Finsbury Park Mosque, which was attended by both Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and "shoe bomber" Richard Reid. One top British counterterrorism official described the mosque as a "honeypot for extremists."
