Poll: America More Critical of Bush on Economy, Iraq
Tue July 8, 2003 04:37 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Americans have become more critical of President Bush's handling of the war in Iraq as well as his efforts regarding the economy and health care, according to an opinion poll released on Tuesday.
Bush's overall job performance rating of 60 percent is down 14 points from its post-Iraq war peak of 74 percent, according to a nationwide Pew Research Center poll conducted from June 19 to July 2.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents continued to support the decision to go to war in Iraq, down slightly from 74 percent in mid-April. But less than a quarter -- 23 percent -- thought the U.S.-led war in Iraq was "going well," compared with 61 percent in April.

4. According to Pew, Gore Should Run Again
"Former Vice President Al Gore, who narrowly lost the 2000 presidential election, and former first lady and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who are not candidates, attracted the most interest -- with 42 percent and 37 percent, respectively, of voters saying there was a good chance they would vote for them."

But I'm not sure if they polled just Democrats for this question.

7. This is the kind of uphill battle we're facing
There was little evidence the Democrats could turn that discontent to their advantage in the upcoming presidential campaign.

"The field of Democratic candidates generates much less interest than did the field of candidates four years ago," the survey said.

Of the nine declared Democratic candidates, none received even 25 percent support. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, the party's 2000 vice presidential nominee, led the field, each attracting 23 percent of respondents who said there was a good chance they would vote for them.

5. It is gturning
It is turning slowly, though I love the spin on it... they are still trying to paint it in a possitive light. The Repubs numbers should make Rove sweat bullets.

6. Here's the analysis from the Pew web site

The cloud in this is the lack of enthusiam for any of the Dem candidates.

8. We are still far away
from the primaries. I think as the candidates ramp up their campaigns, there will be more excitement. Remember, the internet is sometimes months ahead of trends. People still feel it is hopeless, that Bush is undefeatable and they may as well call it a day. They haven't heard the candidates speak, read any of their literature, or considered their positions.

One of the reasons why we have to do our best to reach out to these people. A low-voter turnout is unacceptable this time around. We need the entire nation to rise up and cast Bush out.

9. less than 23% the war is going well
that's an important statistic and shows how low Bush can still fall.

There may be hope. The other higher numbers are due to allegience to the President, 911, and the polling questions.

23% - that's very encouraging that people seem to understand.

11. By "Shit Head" do you mean Bush or Turd Blossom Rove?
Either way, you are right. Another diversion probably is being planned. But day by day, voter by voter, Bush keeps demonstrating his fecal Midas touch.

12. A slight difference in reporting….
Below, you have an outlet from Missouri and then you have the threads link with Rueters….I wish I could be surprised, but not.

A new poll finds public confidence in President Bush's handling of some issues is slipping somewhat –
Overall, Bush remains relatively strong in the polls with 60 percent approving of the job he's doing.

Rueters:

Bush's overall job performance rating of 60 percent is down 14 points from its post-Iraq war peak of 74 percent, according to a nationwide Pew Research Center poll conducted from June 19 to July 2.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents continued to support the decision to go to war in Iraq, down slightly from 74 percent in mid-April. But less than a quarter -- 23 percent -- thought the U.S.-led war in Iraq was "going well," compared with 61 percent in April.
