Somali elders say four civilians killed by US bombs
Source: AFP

MOGADISHU (AFP) - US military planes bombed an Islamist-held town in Somalia near the Kenyan border overnight killing at least four civilians, local elders said Monday.

"It was later in the night -- around 3.00 am -- when a US aircraft dropped three bombs into the Dhoble town. They fired at three targets, including two houses and four civilians were killed," said elder Abdullahi Sheikh Duale.

Sheikh Mukhtar Robow, a spokesman for the Islamist movement which is leading an insurgency against the Somali government, confirmed the attack.

"I can confirm to you that the Americans bombed the town and hit civilians targets thinking that they were Islamist hideouts. They used an AC 130 plane," Robow told AFP.

2. The US sure likes to drop bombs in civilian areas and damned be the
collateral damage. Apparently these people are starting to resent their family members and neighbors being killed.

3. Last time I checked
The AC-130 doesn't carry bombs. Sounds like they got something wrong here.

The AC-130 doesn't carry missiles either. Maybe it was a Predator?

13. could have been an AC-130 Spooky gunship
although it doesn't carry bombs the 105mm howitzer on board could probably do that damage; still sloppy reporting. And Somalia is a forgotten battle zone in the "war on terror." There is no government and the Islamic Courts are the worst kind of fundamentalist islam but they do provide stability and order in a country run by warlords.

31. It has a 105mm which could be confused for a bomb.
Somalia is a likely place to use an AC-130 because of zero AA threat.

9. Somalia is in such a mess they don't even have a permanent
government. They've been "Bush whacked" for their gold, oil, etc. They are to be part of the Mideast Union (all the way down that coastal area rich with gold and oil).

How many countries can they destroy before it is determined Bush is committing genocide Congress...UN?

11. U.S. military confirms launched strike in So. Somalia
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military targeted suspected "terrorists" in a strike launched early on Monday in Dobley, Somalia, a senior U.S. military official said.

The official, who declined to be named, told Reuters: "We launched a deliberate strike against a suspected bed-down of known terrorists."

He said it was too early to know what damage had been inflicted, including whether any people were injured or killed in the strike launched overnight Washington time (early morning GMT). The official declined to give details on the type of weapon used.

This was the fourth U.S. air strike on Somalia in 14 months.

16. Americans fire missiles into Somalia
Source: International Herald Tribune

American naval forces fired missiles into southern Somalia on Monday, aiming at what the Defense Department called terrorist targets.

Residents reached by telephone said the only casualties were three wounded civilians, three dead cows, one dead donkey and a partly destroyed house.

Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman in Washington, said the target was a "known Al Qaeda terrorist."

27. Smartass. I got that.
But you're probably figuring too close. Let's see:

S O M A L I A

M A L A S I O = Malaysia?

L A O S A (s) I (a) = Cambodia? Again?

L I S A + M O = The Simpson's?

M O (n) A L I S A = Art? Artists? The Louvre?

A M O S + A L I = Black Icons?

Remember, they can be off by a country or two in any direction (and it's doubtful their aim has improved) or misspell words in any number of ways - and it's not as if phonetic spelling is going to help anyone who uses the word "new-cue-lur" on a daily basis.

19. FOX-News will cover it ...
"In a stunning success in the War on Terror, a US missile killed Al Qeada Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 this morning in southern Somalia. Six of the terrorists were wearing cow costumes, while the other two were dressed as a donkey, apparently in a failed effort to escape detection while escaping."

21. What does it cost to position some army people there and fire missiles?
Would they have to prepare for retaliation? Air cover or something?

DOESN"T THIS MEAN WE HAVE EXPANDED THE WAR ON TERROR TO AFRICA?

What do they call the assistance and backing of Columbians who moved into the nation of Ecuador yesterday or today?

What does Congress say about the spread of the WAR ON TERROR?

We are the new Romans and we shall suffer the same fate.

It will be a good thing for this country when we no longer consider ourselves a superpower.
