Chief federal judge investigated for alleged involvements with prostitutes
Edited on Sat Mar-08-08 12:03 AM by HawkeyeX
Source: 9news

DENVER – 9Wants to Know has learned the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit is investigating Chief U.S. District Judge Edward Nottingham for the third time in the past year.

He is being investigated for improper judicial conduct after his full name and personal cell phone number appeared on a list of clients from a Denver prostitution business.

The business called Denver Players or Denver Sugar was shut down in January after IRS and Denver Police investigators served search warrants at the brothel on Fillmore Street.

Nottingham ascended to chief judge in 2007 and presided over the insider trading trial of Qwest CEO Joe Nacchio.

9NEWS legal analyst Scott Robinson says Judge Nottingham faces serious repercussions if these latest allegations about him are proven true.

This guy is a GWHB appointee - a useless Rethug wasting his time.

He's been investigated for porn on his work computer, using handicapped space (in front a handicapped activist no less!) and now this. He needs to be impeached, indicted and thrown into the clink for a time. Oh yes, and I forgot about his $3,000 spending spree in a topless bar and having a blackout about it. Wife's divorcing him as well.

And yes, he presided over the Joe Nacchio case (Qwest) and the defense lawyers are using this facts as basis for a retrial under appeal.

17. They watch each other's back
"There may not be a bar for judicial conduct on the planet set lower than the one established by the Tenth Circuit. Professor Ronald Rotunda observes:

{Senior Judge John Kane -- a Carter appointee} (who gave me permission to quote his e-mail), wrote, "I've been a district judge for 29 years and think the federal judicial house has brought this legislation on itself." He sat on the 10th Circuit Judicial Council when the first complaint about a judge came up for consideration: A district judge was trying to coerce counsel into establishing a library on product liability cases in honor of the judge.

Judge Kane's e-mail is worth quoting at length. He voted for discipline. The vote was 3 to 3, "and so the Chief Judge voted against sustaining the complaint because it was the first such complaint and he thought a close vote was too slender a reed upon which to proceed. As we were leaving the meeting, one of the judges who had voted to dismiss collared me and said, 'John, think about it. The next time it could be you or me. We've got to stick together.'" {Ronald D. Rotunda, “The Courts Need This Watchdog,” Washington Post, Dec. 21, 2006 at A-29.}

The judges of that Circuit have established a standard for perfidy Judge Nottingham couldn’t live down to if he moved into the Diamond Cabaret. Assuming Judge Kane’s veracity, Tenth Circuit judges saw nothing wrong with one of their colleagues soliciting a bribe!</blockquote>

Feds grill Nacchio judge's ex-wife
She revealed last week that he spent $3,000 at a strip club and used a dating site tied to porn. He called the issue private.

Article Last Updated: 08/14/2007 03:04:57 PM MDT

Judge Edward Nottingham s use of an adult dating website surfaced in divorce papers his ex-wife released. (Special to The Post)The FBI questioned the ex-wife of Chief U.S. District Judge Edward W. Nottingham after she revealed he spent thousands of dollars at the Diamond Cabaret strip club and subscribed to an Internet dating site that contains pornography.

Marcie Jaeger said FBI agents contacted her Thursday about her ex- husband. She refused to say what they questioned her about or why they were making an inquiry. However, she told 9News that the FBI was looking into possible improper use of his federal computer.

Officially, FBI spokeswoman Rene A. Vonder Haar said the agency had no comment.

Nottingham refused to be interviewed when contacted by The Denver Post. His courtroom staff issued a statement on his behalf.

"Judge Nottingham believes the underlying issues ... are private and personal matters involving human frailties and foibles, matters which have now become public as a result of protracted, bitter divorce proceedings," the statement says. "Judge Nottingham has attempted to deal with the issues privately, and he will continue to do so. No purpose would be served by exploring these matters publicly."

10. "... He has been described by attorneys as caustic, vitriolic, callous, cantankerous, ill-tempered
and disharmonious ... During the 1990s, Nottingham was known for scheduling hearings at 6:30 a.m. for lawyers who had irked him ... According to several authorities, he is the only judge in the state--and possibly the only federal judge in the country--who sets hearings for 6:30 a.m.” Lawyer Curtis Kennedy described Nottingham's hearings as "punitive" and a "real inconvenience for people who have small children at home." ... In 2005, Nottingham ordered a Steamboat Springs woman thrown in jail because she wouldn't stop filing lawsuits he characterized as "frivolous," "abusive" and "gibberish." The woman spent four months in prison before agreeing to drop the suits. Once free, she promptly filed appeals, at least one of which she prevailed ... Prior to the recent debauchery scandal, Nottingham openly predicted that there would be plenty of people willing to talk about him but few, if any, who would allow their names to be used. Indeed, several attorneys said they didn't want to jeopardize future pleadings in front of Nottingham by commenting. "Everyone who goes before him is nervous," one of those attorneys said. "Those who aren't should be." ..." http://www.knowyourcourts.com/Nottingham/Nottingham.htm

On the bright side, the republicon homelanders are consistent in their hypocrisy...

I see he is using the Sen. David Vitter (R - Diaper Sex) defense: "I am already (smirk) forgiven."

Pathetice, lying, hypocritical republicons. Sheesh. Puhlease lecture us all again about Republicon Family Values. Not.
