Gov. Patterson Admits To Having An Affair
Source: New York Daily News

The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state's new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.

In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.

In the course of several interviews in the past few days, Paterson said he maintained a relationship for two or three years with "a woman other than my wife," beginning in 1999.

As part of that relationship, Paterson said, he and the other woman sometimes stayed at an upper West Side hotel — the Days Inn at Broadway and W. 94th St.

13. You may be thinking of the Post.
NY Daily News is generally okay to pretty good. Middle of the road to sort of working-class left, including an occassional really good column or two by Jimmy Breslin.

The New York Post, on the other hand, is owned by Rupert Murdoch and routinely publishes frontpage sensational right-wing propaganda.

30. What do repug child predators have to do with Paterson's affair?
You're making an association that doesn't exist, and won't, if you don't.

Paterson and wife had marital problems, worked them out, and proactively defused circulating rumors. Sounds all good to me.

42. Well it seems that the French have issues with Sarkozy's recent escapades as well

Europeans do care when politician's personal lives interfere with their ability to do their job. Part of the reason Sarkozy has done a face plant in the polls is his conduct in his personal life.

As far as NY is concerned that's not necessarily the case with the new guy but it definitely was the case with Spitzer as it totally undermined his credibility to be soliciting the same practices he agrressively prosecuted just a few years earlier.

Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 07:55 AM by Mike Daniels
If Spitzer had been banging the next door neighbor the scandal would have evaporated in a day or so and Spitzer would still be in office.

It was Spitzer aggressively and repeatedly breaking laws that he himself once prosecuted that gave his escapade legs and rightfully pushed him out of office.

35. Report: New NY governor admits affair
Source: AP

ALBANY, N.Y. - With his predecessor's term doomed by a sex scandal, brand-new Gov. David Paterson tried to come clean about his own skeletons just hours after assuming office by acknowledging a years-old affair.

Paterson was sworn in almost exactly a week after allegations first surfaced that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer was "Client 9" of a high-priced call girl service. Responding to rumors circulating in Albany, Paterson and his wife, Michelle, told the Daily News of New York City that both had affairs during a rough patch in their marriage several years ago.

"This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point," Paterson told the Daily News. "But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on."

Paterson told the newspaper that he maintained a relationship with another woman from 1999 until 2001. He and his wife, Michelle, eventually sought counseling and repaired their relationship. The couple did not go into details.

This is THEIR BUSINESS. It's sad that they obviously felt compelled to reveal it themselves before our National Enquirer media got a hold of it.

With all the other more important issues going on right now -- namely the economy -- I really, really, really don't care what people do privately.

Again, I find it very sad that the Patersons obviously believed they had to do a preemptive strike on such a personal, and probably painful, matter.

75. What issues? There are good men left but they are few and
far between, let's face it. I look around me and see it every day. My best friend's husband left her after 38 years and they had a great marriage, I knew both of them well for years. She got sick and he decided he was too young at 58 to be saddled with a sicko so he traded her in for a younger model. Same with my brother in law after 35 years only he wants to take the entire family business and toss her to the curb without two dimes to rub together. Every time something like Spitzer or Clinton comes up I hear the same thing "well, men are like that, that "sex drive" is so strong, blah, blah. No issues. Just truth. And yes I'm glad I'm not in the dating scene - I couldn't follow perfection with what is there today.

It's sad that he felt it was necessary to put his business in the street like that, but in this day and age he would have been crucified over it had he not said anything. Lord knows how the press loves a sex scandal.

This is a non-story, Paterson is one of the good guys and his coming clean about it to shut up the rumors just improves my already high opinion of him.

to be Governor or Mayor of NY. By "selection" he is now Governor.

Joking about Spitzer's prostitute and sex was tasteless. Do ya think that Paterson turned him in or wire tapped? Sptizer wasn't liked by Paterson but Patreson has shown his politics all to well. He could have been more gracious.

Do you think Paterson will be a reformer or fence sitter (which he has been up to this point in time)?

Paterson will lose to a Republican when there is a real election. Was that the deal all along? It was all too quick without a trial....quilty. Yep...I smell at rat too.

Wish the dems politicans could keep their pants zipped and keep in mind their integrity goes out the window when they do this crap.

Instead we get more the skank private news that both were out sleeping around on each other.

It was none of my business until they stood up and advertised it. And of course they were already dumbshits for him being a politicians and them out doing this crap.

He and his wife look soo.... skank now.

I wonder what the people here would be saying if he was a republican. Actually I'm sure I know.

77. I'm glad he (and his wife) came out with this before the media vultures did
Shows good things from the man and his family.

I, for one, don't care if he had an affair, this is only news because of Spitzer (and Rudy too). At least it wasn't illegal (Spitzer), and didn't use public funds (Rudy).

I'm glad they came clean with it, I'm glad they were honest about it, and I'm glad they told us before it was dug up by scum bags with an ax (or headlines) to grind.

Having said that, I'm happy to see they've worked out their issues, and hope the best for them in their marriage. But really, I don't care, nor is it my business what marital problems the Paterson's have. They have no bearing on his quality as a governor.

78. Today the Rethug Bruno is demanding that Paterson resign......
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 12:27 PM by ElsewheresDaughter
Paterson had an affair just last month with an Olympic gold medalist in Brooklyn...the women called Paterson the daY BEFORE HE WAS SWORN IN WANTING MONEY AND THAT IS THE ONLY REASON HE CAME OUT AND ADMITTED AFFAIRS....HE WAS FORCED INTO THIS CONFESSion. Paterson also gave several of his girlfriends jobs and pay raises. we are fucked in NY now

sorry about caplock

Rethug Bruno is next in line to become the Gov

Obama will lose a super delegate Paterson when this happens

Karma sucks sometimes Paterson was endorsing Clinton but after Spitzer resigned he changed to Obama

Very stupid of Paterson to use state funds for sexual affaIRS

Among the Paterson campaign’s expenses were two in September 2001 at a hotel on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that Mr. Paterson’s office has confirmed he used for an extramarital affair during that period.

The expenses, totaling $455, were incurred at what was then the Quality Hotel on West 94th Street on Sept. 10 and Sept. 24, and are listed in campaign reports as office-related. On each of those days, the reports also show expenses for Amtrak train travel between Albany and New York and meals at Upper West Side restaurants. Mr. Paterson has indicated that a staff member might have stayed at the hotel on those nights. The reports show no record of reimbursements for any of those expenses.

80. Seems to me that if New Yorkers could put up with all Mr. 9-11's affairs..
they should be able to put up with Paterson having had one in the past.

83. "Gov. Paterson admits to sex with other woman for years "
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 06:45 PM by superconnected
Hows that headline grab ya?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2008/03/17/2008-03-17_gov_paterson_admits_to_sex_with_other_wo.html

... like this isn't another dumbass politician whose making very stupid moves in his private life and therefor likely making them in his political life - private deals for profit. Let me guess, he want's to change everything for the good - while he can't keep his integrity.

sure, we can just dismiss this as his private life but he's advertising it. Come on... politicians should know better than this crap. I see another egoist who should be thrown out. We can find candidates that can keep integrity - can figure out that they NEED to keep integrity if they're going to be a political figure. This dumbshit isn't one of those.
