Democrats Making Big Inroads In Party Identification
By Bruce Drake, CQ Staff
2 hours, 36 minutes ago

The Democratic Party has increased its margin in voters who identify with it rather than Republicans, and going into this year's election has increased its advantage among independent voters and in swing states, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted during the first two months of this year. Pew says voters now favor the Democrats by a "decidedly larger margin" than the previous two election cycles.

Voters who identify themselves as Independents actually occupy first place at 37 percent, followed by Democrats at 36 percent and Republicans at 27 percent. That's a 3 point gain for Democrats since 2004 and a 6 point drop for Republicans, putting them at their lowest ebb in 16 years.

The survey also found:

- In states that Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry won by 5 points or more in 2004, the Democratic margin over Republicans has grown from 10 points to 18 points. "Red States" won by President Bush by 5 points or more have remained relatively stable.

- Democrats have made significant gains in three of four swing states - Pennsylvania (21 electoral votes), Ohio (20 electoral votes) and Michigan (17 electoral votes) while party identification remains relatively close in Florida (27 electoral votes).

3. Yes, well... that's because she's Republican lite.
It's not a big jump for disillusioned Repubs to vote for Hillary.

Another fact: Rush Limbaugh sent his minions off to help her get the nomination, figuring that their cranky old flip-flopper can win against such an easy target as Bill's Missus with all her high-class baggage. :P

5. That is also true.
The trick is, being able to hold several perspectives at the same time without elevating one partial truth to the "whole" truth and nothing but.

Hillary wins true blue Dem states and votes while Obama begs Rethugs to switch and register as a Dem for a Day and vote for him.

11. It is sad how often on DU
one gets accused of "hating" when one simply expresses a preference for one candidate over another.

9. The objective is to win in November
Sorry to break this to you... The November general election is not restricted to a single party... Clinton or Obama and McCain need to win in November, and that is all voters. Additionally, it is pretty obvious that a Clinton ticket will hurt our House and Senate seats more than an Obama ticket (if you don't believe that, you are living in a fantasy). I will work for either Democratic candidate in the general election, but I am convinced that Obama is the better choice, for winning the general election and for doing what is right for the country.

10. Two of those states held bogus primaries.
In Michigan, no other major candidate's name was on the ballot.

And even still, with the deck stacked in her favor, Hillary only got 55% against "Uncommitted" and barely got 50% in Florida.

Some victory.
