Powell Rebukes Dems for Criticizing Bush
AP wire

January 21, 2004, 10:47 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Colin Powell on Wednesday criticized Democratic presidential candidates for saying "ridiculous, outrageous and irresponsible" things about President Bush.

Powell said it was "just awful" and "total absurdity" for former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean to speak openly about theories that suggest Bush was warned in advance about the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

<snip>

"None of us knew about 9/11 before the attack. My God, to suggest that responsible people, the president of the United States, would have known about that before the fact and not done anything about it, it is just, it's just, it's awful," Powell said.

<snip>

"One, I'm annoyed. Second, they know better. Three, they must be desperate," Powell said. "I mean, the American people aren't going to fall for these kinds of ridiculous, outrageous and irresponsible charges."

Someone needs to tell Colin that none of this is ridiculous, outrageous or irresponsible. What is really awful is that responsible people, the president of the United States, knew that something big was going to happen and the fact is they did nothing about it, even once the attacks had begun, they all sat on their hands until it was too late to stop the events in progress. Sorry Colin, you are the one who is ridiculous, outrageous and irresponsible and you can add to that list that you are also a major LIAR.

5. Then Colon
(misspelling intentional), tell your boss to start releasing ALL the documents relating to 9/11 and stop muzzling the Kean commission. After all, you have nothing to hide.

Colon really believes that the boss knew nothing about this. This is because he isn't in "the inner circle". He's simply window dressing to make the neocons look moderate.

11. What was it retired CIA guy Ray McGovern said...
... in an interview by Will Pitt?

I understand Colin Powell. I know where he is coming from, I know where he got his identity and his persona, and it was in this great institution we call the United States Army, which, by the way, I am very proud to have served in. But that be exaggerated, and it has been in his case. People were expecting him to take a stand on principle and resign. That was never a possibility I attributed to Colin Powell, because unlike General Clark, Powell is really a creature of how he was given his identity in this whole system. He is just not constitutionally able to buck it.

how come Bush won't allow any more time for the 911's commission to investigate? Arkansas Democrat-Gazette had a blurb the other day that the commission's time won't be extended beyond May.

19. Here is the truth about Colin Powell
"As a military assistant to Caspar Weinberger during the Reagan administration, he helped to deceive Congress about the trading in heavy weapons with Iran, about the exchange of those weapons for hostages, and about the diversion of the illicit proceeds to finance another illicit operation in Nicaragua.

In Panama, in 1989, he helped shape an operation that totally disregarded international law and took many civilian lives.

During the Gulf War, he strongly opposed any military help for the Kurdish and Shia rebellions against Saddam Hussein.

In the Bosnian conflict, he publicly opposed any intervention against Slobodan Milosevic and his forcible creation of a "Greater Serbia."

42. One other Thing
He also assisted in the decision not to send any armored vehicles to Somalia, for fear that it would help to escalate the situation there.

This was right before "Black Hawk Down", and yet his part in the
decision has very seldom been brought up. All the blame has fallen
on former President Clinton, and the former SecDef Les Aspin.

In his position as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Powell was considered
the one to have the best knowledge regarding the deployment of armor
to Somalia.

I'm not saying that some of the Rangers wouldn't have died, but with armor support the loss of life might not have been as bad as it was.
Unfortunately the only other person that could answer this question
is Lt Gen Boykins, as he was the commander of those men that were
ambushed and died.

I don't have much to add to the foregoing other than to ask who annointed him the latest mouthpiece of the admin?!? At the time Powell was chosen to be SOS, I had some respect for him and expected him to be more of an independent mind rather than the lap dog that he is to */Cheney and their handlers. After his "performance" at the UN and the lies upon which it was based, I have zero respect for the man and do not trust a word uttered from his mouth.

28. It's not Bush's fault, he was on vacation
OK, there was some advance notice of "something big" but it would have been ridiculous, absurd, irresponsible, my God, just awful to suggest that he should have cut his well-deserved month-long vacation short. My God.

Powell also denied that Bush's favorite song is "Vacation" by the Go-Gos, or that he owns all of the Chevy Chase "Vacation" movies, or that prior to instructing his staff to post the "Mission Accomplished" banner on the USS Lincoln, Bush's first choice was an "I'd Rather Be On Vacation" bumper sticker.

Powell is right, though...we are slowly beginning to understand what kind of crap the American people will and will not stand for.

There are a great deal of voters who have questioned the pResidents knowledge. Oh, I guess the 9/11 investigation is just for shits and giggles.

He should be ashamed of himself for so blindly being the puppet to this adminsitration. They took his hard earn reputation and have made him look like an absolute fool (and liar to boot).

But why should I give a damn what that lying traitorous fool thinks or says? Personally I hope that when and if we can have honest elections we will vote bush and Powell and all of bush's henchmen out of office. Powell can put on this false act of outrage, but it would be better for him to realize that many many people don't trust a single word that he or his keepers say anymore. If there is nothing to hide about 9/11 then why are they keeping those records secret? Why have they done all that is possible to thwart the 9/11 investigation? Why? Because they did something wrong and they are trying to hide it. The bush administration have proven themselves to be deceivers and I will believe nothing that that administration says again. The trust is gone, so they can quit the act.

--safely-- a response to such out of touch denial. OnlytLTTE.. &hope it could circulate. Stars & Stripes has letters making many of the points..this WH failed the American people.

He is not even connecting to the factlast May WH had to admit it had CIA intel before them in an Aug mtg but dismissed it as "too general" "just buzz". Just buzz if their minds__ set on other plans. We had headlines Bush Knew even in NYPost. Then
corp media neutralized it pushing it into blackhole-of-BushCheneyRumspowell disasters.

9-11 Commission surfaced to admit evidence convinces the triple hi-jack bombings could have been prevented. Every open minded person knows this. And it happened on their watch--
just that much they refuse to admit acknowledge. Points I've made in letters to media-ed & "analyst" reporters.
