Admiral reprimanded for lying during probe of relationship
A senior Navy officer has received a written reprimand and requested retirement after an investigation concluded that he lied about having an inappropriate relationship while working at the White House in 1990, the Navy said Monday.

Rear Adm. John Stufflebeem, a career naval aviator, was demoted in rank in March from three-star to two-star level and fired from his senior staff job, in connection with the matter.

Last Friday, Stufflebeem received a punitive letter of reprimand for having violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice by making a false statement during the investigation, said Navy spokesman Rear Adm. Frank Thorp. It will now be up to Navy Adm. Gary Roughead, the chief of naval operations, to recommend at what rank Stufflebeem would be allowed to retire, Thorp said.

The final decision on rank, which will be made by Navy Secretary Donald C. Winter, will affect Stufflebeem's retirement pay.

2. Anyone want to bet that this is political payback?
He is being demoted 18 years AFTER he lied?
I'm sorry...there are just some questions that shouldn't be asked...one of them being about who you have sex with.

3. would you include a few despicable priests in that comment?
well - perhaps more than a few.

And . . . what about some of the teachers who have been caught.

And what about those RLDS 50+ year-olds whose compound was recently raided in Texas.

I think they can fairly be asked who they have been having sex with.

5. Hey! Where's the noise over this? Aren't the Republicans going to drag him through the mud?
Is the sky falling? Is it "END TIMES?????"

It's so unlike our right-wing to be remiss in their public stonings of people who don't live up to their personal moral requirements (at least of Democrats).

10. How did this come up?

They nailed him for submitting a false official statement, not a violation of the chain of command (i.e. schtooping a subordinate).

In the military who you have sex with is an issue. You are not allowed to have a relationship with someone in your chain of command. You are also not allowed to have a relationship with someone that is not on your side of the officer/enlisted line, ie no officer dating an enlisted (unless it was a pre-existing relationship). If a husband and wife are in the same unit, many steps are taken to ensure one is not in charge of the other. This is necessary "...to maintain good order and discipline."

A letter of reprimand is not good, but he'll still receive an honorable discharge. If they really had wanted to go after him they would have court marshaled him and given him a other than honorable or dishonorable discharge and taken his retirement away.
