Iran veil demo calls 'death to France'
TEHRAN, Jan 23 (AFP) - Around 150 women members of Iran's Bassiji volunteer militias shouted "death to France" during weekly prayers here Friday over a proposal in France to prohibit Muslim schoolgirls from wearing headscarves, an AFP journalist said.

"We see the hand of Satan in France's decision, and we want all Muslim women in France to know that we will be with them to the last drop of our blood," said a declaration read out at the end of the protest.

The habitual "Death to America, Israel" was also shouted, as demonstrators carried banners reading "Islam yes, liberal and secular no."

1. The curious question is
if Iran launches an attack on France, how will the US respond, based on the current (mis)administration's stance on that country?

5. .
Religious fanatics seem to have poor diplomatic skills in common.
France will probably say: That's exactly why.
You can have your opinion about this law but protesting like this undermines your whole cause and shows why religious fanatism is so feared.

4. But.. we're supposed to ignore them.
Or did they come out from behind their veils? Nah...

New headline:
Veiled Extremists Can't Face France

6. France is wrong but
they sure seem to be much more supportive of the Palestinians and more critical of the US invasion than most countries. Muslims abroad should realize that this enforces the stereotype of Islam as a bloodthirsty religion here in America. Stop wishing death on everyone who disagrees with you. Moderate Muslims would do well to distance themselves from this protest, even if they, as do I, oppose France's policy.

7. I'm Not So Sure

I think it depends on whether or not you believe a nation of people have a right to protect their traditional culture in its homeland.

What else can they do, on a practical level?

8. I suspect
the motivation behind France's position is that it is extremist muslims that require veils and who needs fundamentalists. With moderate muslims covering the head is optional. I say good on France for insisting on methods designed to integrate rather than separate.
