Cuba Sharing Info with Iraq (from Drudge Report)
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 05:14 PM by guajira
A "senior Defense Department official" (minister of propaganda???)

Note last line "CIA had no information about it"!!
snippets:

Iraq-Cuba axis
A senior Defense Department official tells us one of the alarming after-action intelligence reports that reached the Pentagon is that the communist government of Cuba shared intelligence on the United States with Saddam Hussein's regime.

The intelligence ties are believed to be an offshoot of Cuba's covert oil-purchasing arrangement with Iraq under Saddam. Those deals have been under way since the late 1990s and involve oil tankers that were sent to Mexico. The oil then was pumped from the tankers to smaller boats for delivery to Cuba.
The intelligence sharing also comes amid reports from Cuban exiles that Cuba became a safe haven for fleeing Iraqi government officials following the U.S.-led invasion.
Asked about the Cuba-Iraq intelligence-sharing, a second U.S. official said the CIA had no information about it.

Very visible while traveling from Havana to Varadero!

snippet:
Very close to this place, Puerto Escondido and el Peñón del Fraile provide visitors with the opportunity of enjoying a wonderful marine landscape and, at the same time, experience the presence of several oil wells for the extraction of oil and gas, an increasingly important activity for the economy of Havana.

Time to add Mexico to that axis of evildoer list too.

7. How stupid do they think we are....
A scandal after all these years?

Give us a break.

Who thought this up?

And when will the CIA find the proof?.

Welcome to the evil of the DOD - on an axis with the White House and the Rove Room.

12. Evidently stupid enough to still be trade and travel banned

with the support of all the leading 2004 Democratic presidential candidates despite the wishes of the bipartisan majority across the country and all over the planet.

11. If US is so concerned about Cuba - why do they allow regular flights
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 11:17 AM by guajira
from Miami, NY and LA directly to Havana?

snippet:
On November 1, 2001, Continental Airlines started twenty weekly charter flights from the United States to Cuba, using Boeing 737 aircraft, with flights originating primarily from Miami, one of the U.S. approved gateway cities for travel to and from Cuba. The other U.S. cities with direct flights to Cuba are Los Angeles and New York city.

Of course that's only for Cuban "exiles" who have had to "flee" Cuba for political reasons! NOT!!!

Regular Americans are denied (by U.S.) freedom to travel to Cuba legally, so many find ways to get there through 3rd countries!

14. I love this part!

...reports from Cuban exiles that Cuba became a safe haven for fleeing Iraqi government officials following the U.S.-led invasion

Now why would an Iraqi goverment official flee halfway around the world to a spanish speaking, communist country, when right next door they had an arabic speaking, islamic country ruled by a Ba'athist party that had close ties to their own? It seems like the Cuban exiles in Maimi can make up pretty much anything, and the moonie times will print it.

15. Excellent observation. Sounds as if you're acquainted with their ways!
They impressed Florida a couple of years ago with their inspired conjectures that Fidel Castro was behind the shark attacks, as he had actually trained the sharks in Cuba to attack people, and had somehow directed them to Florida beaches.

They also opined that he was responsible for infecting birds with the Nile Fever Virus and causing them to fly to Florida and start spreading disease.

(You may recall their belief that sacred dolphins surrounded tiny Elián and protected him while he was in the water. (The dolphins dropped the ball, however on most of the other travellers!))
