Zuckerman submits $580 mln Newsday bid: source
Source: Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Daily News owner Mortimer Zuckerman has submitted a $580 million bid for Tribune Co's Newsday daily newspaper on Long Island, New York, matching a bid by News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Murdoch's New York Post daily tabloid newspaper is the chief rival to Zuckerman's Daily News. Murdoch's bid would leave a small percentage of the paper in the hands of Tribune in order to defer the tax hit that Tribune would take if it sold the paper.

The source said Zuckerman's bid is similarly structured, but Zuckerman is betting that the deal would be more attractive to Tribune because it could get done more quickly without heavy U.S. regulatory scrutiny.

A representative for Zuckerman did not return telephone calls seeking comment.

3. Mort made one phone call and made the news of a huge protest "go away".
Nov 2000 four hundred protesters with IV's and in wheelchairs came to Manhattan on two weeks notice to protest the awarding of anti-Lyme patient doctor Allen Steere as "Clinician of the Year" at a toney fundraiser for the American Lyme Disease Foundation, a front for managed care insurance. (The ADLF has not helped any patients only took research dollars and frittered them away in this terrible disease.) All the news cameras were there despite all the news being about the election. He was on his way to the event, stopped his limo, got out and made a telephone call on his cell for everyone to see and NO NEWS STORIES OF THE PROTEST WERE EVER AIRED. The organizers of the protest had their cars broken into and all things returned the next day and were accused on line of being "cult members" Sound familiar? We have been subject to the ex-CIA handlers for the pharmaceutical and insurance industry even during the Clinton years.

This guy is just an American demon, not better than Murdoch.

BTW. The Lyme Disease research funding bill that has been stalled in our Dem Congress for two years is in jeopardy of being tanked again. Go to www.lda.org and find out how to help get the bill scheduled for a vote this year. The head of the committee sitting on it says that it isn't "fair" that they have been getting pressure from advocates on this bill. LDA Presdient Pat Smith told him what was not fair, illness, devistation from the illness and death from the illness because they don't care.
