Petrol rationed to stop hoarding as supplies dwindle on the forecourts
Source: The Independent UK

Britain's motorists faced rationing at petrol stations yesterday, as major suppliers tried to stop them hoarding fuel. Concern over supplies as the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland closed down led to fuel queues on forecourts across Scotland, the north of England and parts of Wales.

Panic over future supplies grew as news spread that BP's Forties pipeline in the North Sea would be fully closed by today and that it could be two weeks before the supply line is fully functioning again.
.........

Ministers and petrol suppliers insisted it was "business as usual", with no danger of shortages as long as nobody panicked.

The Secretary of State for Business, John Hutton, said: "The advice that I have received is that there is plenty of fuel in Scotland for a significant period." Despite these reassurances, several garages reported that they had already sold out of fuel or were running low on supplies.

It'll be interesting to see how Americans respond to supply shortages in the coming years....

2. How will people respond? -- same as they did in past periods of shortage. . .
long lines at the pumps, violence as wait times extend, hoarding in the most asinine ways -- plastic bottles stored in car trunks, 50 gallon drums stashed in bedroom closets. It wasn't nice before and it will only be worse this round, given as there's little hope for fully replenished supplies.

Keep your tank half full at the least. You'll need a buffer when the lines first form and when we move to alternate days of even and odd.

3. I see a log more diesel owners in the future
using used chips grease for fuel.
And I also see many cops looking the other way, because in many countries it's actually ILLEGAL to run your car on anything BUT "approved" fuel!
Here in holland for example (to those of you who think it's a liberal bastion, LOL), it is I L L E G A L to run your car on "farmer's" diesel, which is red. Police ACTUALLY STOP RANDOM CARS AND CHECK!
It's also illegal to use chips grease (christ I've been here too long, fry oil, that is used frying oil), to run your car. No, seriously, it's ILLEGAL because it's not taxed!
In the end many of our opponents are going to be the governments that are supposed to be helping us... and the massive oil lobbies.

4. Question: how do you hoard fuel?
I'd like to do it myself, but I hear it's a fire hazard.

Ordinary citizens I believe are not allowed to hoard gas. Is this true?
I've wanted to build up a stock pile, but this stuff is highly flammable, explosive an absolute disaster. Just think about 200 gallons of gas in your basement....not good.
