Suffolk city spokeswoman Dana Woodson says the death occurred when two apparent tornadoes passed through the city Monday afternoon.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued flood and tornado warnings for parts of North Carolina after storms dumped up to a half-foot of rain.

Forecasters say radar indicated a tornado over Bailey, although authorities report no major damage.

Several counties are under flood advisories. A thunderstorm brought penny-sized hail to Wendell, about 20 miles east of Raleigh.

Forecasters expect the rain and storms to continue through Monday night.

1. This is extremely scary and we stop the GOP move to steal more elections
by using a law like this, a Jim Crow type ruling for sure, from suppressing the vote in any election.

10. I can understand, almost, starting a new topic by mistake, instead of posting reply, but
how does one post a reply to 1 topic on a different one? And that start new topic by mistake, if GD/GDP you have to click through another page, same with LBN. I don't know. Talented beyond my dreams?

5. Severe weather (tornado) hits Virginia, 200 injured
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, April 28 (Reuters) - Severe storms swept through central and southeastern Virginia on Monday, injuring about 200 people and damaging dozens of homes and businesses, a state emergency official said.

The city of Suffolk in the southeastern part of the state was hardest hit by the afternoon storms, said Virginia Department of Emergency Management spokeswoman Laura Southard. She said earlier reports of a fatality in linked to the severe weather were incorrect.

Injuries and damage were also reported in Colonial Heights in central Virginia, Southard said.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing tornadoes in both areas and the National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings.

"There are trees down everywhere and I've seen a half-dozen vehicles flipped over," Richard Hicks of Suffolk told the Virginian-Pilot newspaper.

12. downtown Richmond was fine tonight
When we drove through at 6:30pm and then again at midnight, traveling from the Peninsula to Charlottesville and back.

But we heard that there was a fatality and many injuries in a 12 car pile up on the south west side of Richmond some time around 4:00pm due to one of the tornadoes.

The Driver section of Suffolk was wrecked. Our friends' ph. line is dead in a section of Suffolk near Driver. I read that there's over 6,000 w/o electricity too.

15. Seeing the damage in an area that isn't "used to this kind of weather,"
I'd be very concerned in future storms. How prepared can anyone be in this case? It's amazing there is only one fatality.
