BAGHDAD - The U.S. military on Friday denied Iraqi government claims that the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq was captured and said a man with a similar name had been arrested in the northern city of Mosul.

Iraqi authorities had announced Thursday that police commandos captured Abu Ayyub al-Masri in a raid in the northern city of Mosul.

"Neither coalition forces nor Iraqi security forces detained or killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri. This guy had a similar name," said Maj. Peggy Kageleiry, a U.S. military spokeswoman in northern Iraq. She said no additional details were being immediately provided.

But the point is capturing the leader would not stop the insurgency movement - getting the U.S., the occupier, out of Iraq.

3. Seen this movie before
Didn't this happen once or twice before?

The main thing is they get it on the airwaves and into the consciousness of Americans. Lets see just how loudly the MSM corrects this 'mistake'.

5. My guess is that they actually captured him, but in the topsy turvy, no one knows who's in charge
world over there, the US Command is trying to put the genie back in the bottle by saying it never happened after the Iraqi command gave up the information. You can't get the max intelligence value out of an insurgent leader if his comrades know that he's been captured. IMHO
