Audio of Rumsfeld on Iraq creates buzz
Source: MSNBC

Audio of luncheon with media military analysts posted on Newsvine

The blogosphere has been abuzz about the Internet posting of audio of a luncheon former Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld held with media military analysts that provides insight into the relationship between those analysts and the Pentagon.

The Pentagon released the audio in response to requests filed by The New York Times under the Freedom of Information Act.

...

The government released the audio, which lasts nearly an hour, on May 8. Jack Gillis, a 55-year-old self-described news junkie, downloaded it over the past weekend and analyzed it.

...

The luncheon was held in December 2006, a month after Rumsfeld resigned as defense secretary.

The clips Gillis provides include one in which the media analysts suggest, with Rumsfeld's agreement, that Iraq needs an authoritarian dictator. In another, Rumsfeld suggests that the American public lacked the "maturity" to understand that the nation remained under threat from terrorists and that the only "correction" would be another attack on the U.S.

2. Mike Malloy played this on his show tonight.
I thought it was horrifying. These people should not be allowed to live out their retirement in peace-they should be indicted and imprisoned.

3. What he said was horrifying
Edited on Thu May-15-08 12:59 AM by KT2000
and the fact that he said it one moth AFTER his resignation means he is still in the mix.

Now that McCain is in love with their war - wonder what he has to say about this?

Nothing less than a prison term I would hope.

4. And Rummy isn't a neocon?
His comments are TYPICAL of the condescending "father knows best", keep-them-in-fear-to-keep-them-under-control neocon mindset as displayed by the entire Bush** regime.

They've been playing Americans for fools for seven years now. I hope to hell someone is reading this and waking up. Now go google PNAC!!

5. Kick some "fanny?"
On the third clip down, he's talking about Iraqi leaders and he says one guy knows how to "kick some fanny." Does anyone else find it revealing that this guy who's in charge of the war can't even say "kick some ass?" He wimps out with "kick some fanny?"

If you listen to that clip, note the sniggering that goes on about "this is off the record" and "this is REALLY off the record."

Assholes. What total contempt for the American people.

8. What a coincidence! They had an authoritarian dictator before we invaded.
Maybe you shouldn't have wasted over 4,000 American lives trading out pieces on your custom-made Risk gameboard, Donald. Or do you lack the maturity to understand that?

14. We lack "maturity"
Very nice. And of course, our glorious fathers in the Republican party know best for us, and will make it all-l-l-l-l better. Just sit back and watch how well they handle the situation. And when Dad gets back in the car, breathing heavily through his nostrils, malice oozing from every pore, none of you lot better have the audacity to ask him how it's going if you don't want your fanny tanned with Dad's belt.

Because we lack the "maturity" to understand how to deal with the threat from terrorists.

16. The only "correction" America needs is to see Rumsfeld get the death penalty for war crimes.
I'm ready for another Nuremburg Trials with the same consequences falling upon Rumsfeld and his neocon, sociopathic ilk.

21. so, we are immature
don't appreciate that authoritarian daddy enough, it seems. Apparently, he seems to think we need another attack here so we can appreciate being shitless, shaking in our shoes scared, so big daddy can take care of us. We'll be so scared that Rummy and his minions can exploit it by taking away more of our liberties and starting more wars for his corporate buddies. So, Rummy where were you and your chickenhawk minions for the first attack? Did you think we needed that one too? It is not the Democrats who were asleep at the helm on that fateful day, it was you and the rest of the war hard on, authoritarian greedheads. I blame this administration for the first attack and if there is another, especially, before the end of this nightmare reign, I will hold you and your ilk responsible.
