Colombian president urges FARC to release hostages, threatens military rescue

www.chinaview.cn 2008-05-16 10:57:34

BOGOTA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on Thursday urged the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to free Franco-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and other hostages ahead of an EU-Latin American summit in Peru.

"Hopefully, now before the summit begins, the FARC terrorist movement or one of its spokesmen announce the release of Ingrid Betancourt and the other kidnapping victims," Uribe told a press conference after meeting with Czech Republic Prime Minister Miroslav Topolanek.

However, if there is no announcement of the hostage-freeing from FARC, Uribe said, the government forces will look for the hostages' locations in different regions of the country and start military rescues.

Betancourt's family fiercely rejected the option of military rescue, saying it will "condemn them (hostages) to death."

3. Uribe is the terrorist. That is the problem in Colombia. He has done nothing but sabotage
others' efforts to get hostages released, and his "Big Lie" about all this is simply mindboggling. He and his cohorts have been torturing and murdering thousands of union leaders, small peasant farmers, political leftists, human rights workers and journalists, with $5.5 BILLION in military aid for the U.S./Bush (our tax dollars). That is what they are using the "war on drugs" money for--to kill innocent people. It is no wonder they have an armed leftist insurgency in Colombia, where they chainsaw union leaders and throw their body parts into mass graves, and slit children's throats on suspicion that their parents are leftists.

After this hideous little man's treachery against Hugo Chavez and Rafael Correa--both of whom have tried to get hostages released--he has the nerve of a Bush psycho to demand hostage releases or else he's going to kill more people. Chavez successfully got six people released, after Uribe asked to him to contact the FARC and negotiate it. Uribe then BOMBED the location of the first two hostages as they were in route to their freedom, driving them back into the jungle. It was likely a set-up, designed in Washington DC, to lure Chavez into negotiations with the FARC, on hopes of peace, and then hand him a diplomatic disaster, with dead hostages. Chavez managed to get six released in spite of every effort to stop him. Rafael Correa then tried, and was in advanced negotiations for Ingrid Betancourt's release, when the Colombia/U.S. BOMBED the camp of the chief FARC hostage negotiator, Raul Reyes, just inside Ecuador, killing Reyes and 24 other people in their sleep. Uribe KILLED THE GUY who was ARRANGING the hostage releases!

Correa pegged him correctly--"psycho." A psychotic liar. A psychotic killer. Cold, callous, sadistic--like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld & brethren.

5. Uribe/Bush needs a war
to maintain their grip on power. It's a classic scheme that is used by bona fide dictators all through modern history.

They really have nothing to lose, and Uribe can always run and hide from justice in the US if his war-schemes turn against him. Really, he should be considered a war-criminal already.
