Watch for Obama in Omaha in fall campaign

By Tom Curry
National affairs writer

WASHINGTON - On election night in the last two presidential elections political junkies have been obsessed with Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico, Ohio, and Florida.

Each of those state were decided by only a couple of percentage points, or a few thousand votes.

This year on the night of Nov. 4, instead of worrying about the margin in Milwaukee, or the absentees in Albuquerque, how about keeping an eye on Omaha?

While 48 states allocate their electoral votes on a winner-take-all basis, Nebraska and Maine allow for theirs to be split among different presidential candidates.

3. It's just pie in the sky wishful thinking.
Obama is wasting his time if he thinks he will land that electoral vote.

11. That's the DLC way, concentrate only on safe winnable states
It's why they fought the 50 State Strategy tooth and nail and why they have never won a Presidential election without a third party candidate saving their asses.

6. Yet, Omaha is the center of the universe for a few industries.

Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet)

And one of the biggest military contractor sites out there thanks to its history as the headquarters for Strategic Air Command before it was shuttered.

I just would think due to stereotyping, that Omaha would go McCain in a big way. Nothing to back it up, just guessing that Nebraska is fairly red, and the defense/financials in the area would push Omaha further red.

8. You're forgetting that Omaha was the town to which
Bush fled when the country was attacked by terrorists.

10. Well it was straight to Bellevue, Ne.

Same district with it's one vote at stake. Kerry thought he might get it in 04. There are more registered Dems than Reps in the district!!! Obama won this area BIG in the Feb. caucus.
