(Former White House counselor Dan) Bartlett rips McClellan, calls allegation 'total crap'
Source: CNN

(CNN) — Former White House counselor Dan Bartlett lashed out at Scott McClellan in a telephone interview Wednesday, saying the allegations that the media was soft on the White House are "total crap," adding that advisers of President Bush are "bewildered and puzzled" by the allegations in McClellan's new book.

"It's almost like we're witnessing an out-of-body experience," Bartlett said of McClellan. "We're hearing from a completely different person we didn't have any insight into."

Bartlett added that intimates of the President feel McClellan has violated a trust. "Part of the role of being a trust adviser is to honor that trust," said Bartlett. "It's not your place now to go out" and criticize the President like this.

"What did he really believe when he was serving as press secretary?" Bartlett asked.

While he said McClellan himself has to "answer as to motive" for writing the book now, Bartlett said, "I do question his judgment."

3. They'll get to Scotty before the first interview...
He'll go back to the meek and apologetic person he was as their spokesman. It is wrong to use those people like Bush/Cheney have.

I see they have their talking points distributed and ready for the evening news.

Edited on Wed May-28-08 12:53 PM by kskiska
Scotty will wimp out, claim his ghostwriter misconstrued the story, took things out of context, etc., etc. Someone at the W.H. will have convinced him this book was not a good idea. Remember O'Neil?

10. Bush press secretary Dana Perino issued a statement that was highly critical of their former
colleague"
WASHINGTON - Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan writes in a new memoir that President Bush relied on an aggressive "political propaganda campaign" instead of the truth to sell the Iraq war, and that the decision to invade pushed Bush's presidency "terribly off course.'

The Bush White House made "a decision to turn away from candor and honesty when those qualities were most needed" — a time when the nation was on the brink of war, McClellan writes in the book entitled "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception."

The way Bush managed the Iraq issue "almost guaranteed that the use of force would become the only feasible option."

"In the permanent campaign era, it was all about manipulating sources of public opinion to the president's advantage," McClellan writes.

White House aides seemed stunned by the scathing tone of the book, and Bush press secretary Dana Perino issued a statement that was highly critical of their former colleague.

16. If bush had just ended the sanctions &left Iraq he would have been the biggest wussy in GOP history
...according to the fanatical right wing.

I think that bush's prime motivation was that this Iraq War was a way to divide the electorate and achieve gop electoral victory. Roberts and Alito are the legacy of the Iraq War.

18. McClellen is like those nazis after WW2
"I was only following orders!" If he was aware of all this crap while he was working there and defending it, hes either a liar, or just trying to cash in with a book. Either way, hes pond scum.

If his book is true, and I think most of it is, he should have quit rather than work for that admin.

21. We've seen countless examples of this before, where people with inside knowledge of the WH have been
smeared in the press when they come clean about what they know.

The problem for the WH is that Scotty knows even more, and they know it, and if they screw with him, he may open up and REALLY tell us a story.

Good luck, Scotty, although I gotta tell you, buddy, it's too little, too late.
