The AustralianKEVIN Rudd has called for the people of the Asia-Pacific region to work together for nuclear disarmament after touring the Japanese city of Hiroshima this morning.
The Prime Minister, on his first day of a four-day visit to Japan, spent more than one hour touring the Hiroshima Peace Park built to commemorate the bombing of the city in 1945.
More than 140,000 Japanese died in the blast which leveled the city, beginning the process of the Japanese surrender to the allies.

"In this 21st century that we, the people of the Asian-Pacific region, should resolve afresh to make the Asia-Pacific century a century of peace and that the world at large should aspire now for a world free of nuclear weapons."
