148. Problem is, impeachment takes time
If Georgie attacks Iran after the election there is no time to impeach.

And impeachment is a political process, not a criminal one, so nothing in impeachment proceedings would send Daddy's little war criminal to the Big House.

50. They'll refuse to proceed anyway.
Impeachment isn't really a practical path to take, now that America is already destroyed and the President is a laughing stock lame duck. There's no way that the President can be successfully impeached anyway with as many Republicans as there are in Congress, anyway.

What Kucinich is doing is putting on the record everything + world + dog.

It's going to be particularly useful five to thirty years down the road, should another Republican steal the White House. At that time, every person that Republican President nominates will likely be asked about his or her role in each of these 35 offenses.

And if they answer honestly--or, more likely in the case of Republicans, they lie and are caught by contradictory testimony from previous Senate hearings--the Senate will have cause to refuse the nomination. It's a way to permanently shut the door on Bush Republicans.

It's an attempt to cripple the Republican Party for decades. And wouldn't that be a fine addition to George W. Bush's all-so-important legacy.

Castrate, perhaps. :D

I hadn't even considered what you wrote in your post, but you make some very good points: the impeachment aren't really about impeaching, but getting it all on the record for future nominees to duck and dodge.

Can the President issue a pardon to persons mentioned in articles of impeachment?

150. He's doing more than that
If the process can go on, they can also get the evidence of BushCo into the record and hopefully into the media, then track the votes of the Republicans who support Bush as we roll down to the finish line and really finish them off.

Yes, it's a campaign ploy. Yes, it will likely be seen as such. Worst case, perhaps it will keep Bushco from bombing Iran after the elections when he couldn't be impeached anyway since he would be out of office before the process concluded.

28. Thank you, Mr. Kucinich.
I've written my Rep., David Price, twice asking him to vote for impeachment, and despite the fact that he's a solid librul he weaseled and wiggled out by saying:

ONE: it would be too divisive and distracting ( WTF ??!! )

TWO: besides, there's not enough time. (Sweet juhaysus, save me from this political cowardice)

More power to our stalwart Representative from Ohio. He's got his work cut out for him.

223. Cowardly Excuses
Call your congressidiot and tell him/her excuses are irrelevant. The issue is one of law. If laws were broken, then duty requires action as stipulated in the Constitution. It took a few months to complete the process when Nixon broke the law. The same was true in Clinton's case. The timing is perfect. Little time for the Repigs to stymie the action. Besides, the object is to seek the truth. Isn't it?

I don't think it's right to introduce articles of impeachment while the president is out of the country.

Just like I didn't think it was right for the president to criticize a presidential candidate while speaking in another country.

The rethuglicans will stop at nothing to throw stones from their glass McMansions, especially when Bill Clinton was in office.

This won't go through; even if it goes to a vote...they will vote along party lines...which clears shrub.

I'm glad DK is telling it like it is...even when lots of others aren't.

Most Democrats will resist - after all Bush is a perpetual Christmas in terms of giving us points to attack the Rethugs on come November. The people are wising up them and the Internet will only benefit from the continued betrayal of their journalistic responsibilities to inform the American People, instead of dumbing them down with Pablum, Bullshit and non sense. If they can't do the news in a responsible manner anymore they need to get out of the business and let some one who can do it.

I'm right up by the lake (although in Tubbs Jones country). The storm came in so quickly. Huge lightning bolt, thunder crash and the power went out for a few seconds and the building fire alarm began to scream. It's off now, though. The storm has retreated.

as we traveled north on I-57 to Chicago. No one was injured. But the power lines are all over the highway, cars over turned, and homes, buildings destroyed. The same area had hail the size of baseballs just recently.

The cold and hot fronts meeting is the Spring fling we get every year in this part of the MW.

I've read the impeachable offences on the Demcrats.com sight previosly. It was so painful to hear it all again.

I am surprised that Separation of Church and State is not another violation of the Constitution with Bush funding "select" educational and religious groups with public dollars. I can't understand anyone who lives in a democracy being OK with that.

Stay safe and don't ignore the warnings. I have a warning radio which I keep on during the day and night. It saved a relative and her mother in Florida a few years ago. There were no sirens.

WASHINGTON

Kucinich moves to impeach Bush

Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich took to the House of Representatives floor Monday night to introduce a 35-count resolution to impeach President Bush. Kucinich said Bush "fraudulently" justified the war on Iraq and misled "the American people and members of Congress to believe Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction so as to manufacture a false case for war." Kucinich said in January he planned to launch an impeachment effort against Bush, but delayed his effort after meeting with members of the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Commitee hasn't acted on a bid Kucinich launched last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney.

STORMY WEATHER

Molly Kavanaugh
Plain Dealer Reporter

Record-breaking heat seared Northeast Ohio on Monday, driving us to swimming holes and shade trees. Then high winds, rain and hail swept through, forcing us to hunker down as limbs and power lines fell.

...During the afternoon, the National Weather Service reported that a high of 93 in Cleveland broke a 94-year-old record of 92, which was set in 1914.

By evening, the agency reported golf-ball and penny-sized hail and winds topping 60 miles per hour.

Reports of fallen trees and downed lines flooded police and fire dispatch centers in Cleveland Heights, Lakewood and Parma. Mayfield Heights and South Euclid police dispatchers got calls for power outages in parts of their cities...

Kucinich introduces Bush impeachment resolution
Posted by Sabrina Eaton June 09, 2008 19:35PM

Cleveland Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich took to the House of Representatives floor on Monday evening to introduce a 35-count resolution to impeach President George W. Bush.

Kucinich claimed Bush "fraudulently" justified the war on Iraq and misled "the American people and members of Congress to believe Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction so as to manufacture a false case for war."

"President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office," Kucinich said.

Kucinich said in January that he planned to launch an impeachment effort against Bush, but delayed his effort after meeting with members of the House Judiciary Committee. The Judiciary Commitee hasn't acted on a bid Kucinich launched last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney.

120. Oh fer chrissakes.
It ain't going to happen, and it'll just make us lose support. Bush is despised, and has seven months left. It takes Congress three weeks to form a committee to decide on what they're going to have for breakfast. Nothing would happen in time to get him out of there.

Instead, it'll look like revenge on the Dem's part, and just make us look like the "wacko left" the Repubs are always painting us as.

Just let it go, win the election, and let's get to work on rebuilding this country first. We don't need more division.

Edited on Mon Jun-09-08 10:51 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
This is more important than any election. It has to do with justice and what we're willing to let criminals in our government get away with. Long after candidates and elections are forgotten, the crimes of this administration will be a thorn in the side of our Republic and set a terrible precedent for generations if they go unrecognized and unpunished. We cannot let this pass. Fuck politics. This towers in importance over any campaign or election. Division is not the issue. The issue is justice, something on which I will never be ready to compromise no matter the cost.

208. "Let's get to work on rebuilding this country first." Rebuilding a country of laws, or not?
That is the issue. Rebuilding WHAT?

A country that tortures prisoners?

A country that slaughters 1.2 million innocent people to get their oil?

A country that "occupies" other countries?

A country for Exxon Mobil to fleece?

A country where "justice" is only for Republicans?

A country where the president is an emperor?

A country without habeas corpus?

A country with a shredded Constitution?

A country where it's not who votes that counts, but who "counts" the votes?

A country of laws, or not?

Our Democratic Party leaders have been "go along, get along" with this criminal, war profiteering mafia for too long! Look at the result! Congress has a worse approval rating than Bush!

"We don't need more division." Yeah, the Constitution is "divisive." It separates those who believe in the "rule of law" from those who believe in the "rule of men." And that question was settled in 1776. Tyranny lost...until now. Can the lawful tools of preventing tyranny that our Founders tried their best to build into the Constitution be made to work against an entrenched tyranny? That is the question that Kucinich is posing. It is not enough to teeter back and forth between lawful and unlawful government, depending on who is counting the votes, and how. It is not enough to defeat fascism at the polls, if we can. Fascism must be OUTLAWED...again, as it was in 1776! Tyrants, criminals, mass murderers, shredders of our Constitution and our Bill of Rights must be exposed, removed from office and punished.

That is the PRINCIPLE that Kucinich is speaking for. And if the PRINCIPLE goes unspoken, and the crimes go unnamed within our government, and if there are no consequences to tyranny except losing an election, it WILL happen again...and next time it will be worse.

That is WHY the American Revolution OCCURRED. If you don't establish laws against tyranny--as the fundamental law of the land--and if you don't enforce that law, it WILL happen again. And those Founders were thinking SPECIFICALLY of presidential war! Imperial war. Wars for profit. An out of control executive waging war, and its INEVITABLE corollaries--robbing the public coffers and curtailing the public's rights. That is exactly what they designed impeachment FOR.

Whether or not impeachment can be accomplished--in the cauldron of corruption that we call our government--if the PRINCIPLES of lawful rule are not spoken, and not asserted, they will be forgotten and will be all that much harder to restore. So if Kucinich accomplishes nothing else, he has placed these crimes against our Constitution in the official memory of our government.

I am the first to urge people to think STRATEGICALLY. We ARE in a hell of a mess, and it is not going to be easily or quickly straightened out. My first thought has been the voting machines! My God, do you know that these machines--fast-tracked all over the country during the 2002 to 2004 period--are run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by RIGHTWING BUSHITE CORPORATIONS, with virtually no audit/recount controls?! You wonder why we vote--and nothing happens? You wonder why we vote to end the war--an overwhelming mandate from the American people in 2006--and the war just goes on and on? It's staring us in the face! 'TRADE SECRET' vote counting!

But there are a lot of fronts (not just the voting machines) on which we need to think STRATEGICALLY--practically, in terms of power and resources. And that is okay--more than okay--that is smart. You do what you can, in difficult circumstances. You do what your spirit and your resources permit you to do. And that is what Kucinich is doing. He is doing what he can, in difficult circumstances, with the spirit and resources that he has. He is helping us take the first step back toward lawful government--speaking the truth about what has occurred. He may be outnumbered. He surely will be marginalized and ignored by our corrupt press. He makes our corrupt Democratic Party leadership squirm, because of their complicity in these crimes. But he is right. We cannot "rebuild this country" on a slime-filled, blood-filled river of forgetfulness.

What troubles me the most right now, is how many of the other most prominent progressive blog sites, i.e, Kos, Huffingto, TPM, etc. aren't reporting on this. In essence, not treating it with the validity and respect it deserves...A historic political event, at the least.

That tells you a lot about the mainstream progressive movement.

This is some of the most important stuff one could report on. Ignored by a majority of the forces supposedly on the side of the American people.

This is history occurring of the highest order. Ignored by our so-called leading progressive online news sources.

Dennis J. Kucinich

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - For a good part of this evening, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio 10th District) has been live on C-Span reading Articles of Impeachment against George W. Bush.

The former presidential contender is hoping the House will approve a resolution to impeach President Bush, in spite of the fact that the idea has received little support from Democrats. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier stated that the impeachment of George W. Bush was "off the table."

The AP reports that Kucinich delivered his proposed impeachment language in a floor speech. His contention is that President Bush set out to deceive the nation and the American people, and consequently violated his oath of office when he set the stage for the Iraq war.

.....

The Baltimore Sun reported that an advocate for the process, Bob Fertik, president of Democrats.com, congratulated Kucinich on his "historic leadership."

He was quoted saying, "We've waited seven years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died," Fertik added that "We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot."

All told, Dennis Kucinich presented 35 different articles to the House of Representatives. Kucinich reportedly turned to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and said, "The House is not in order." Pelosi is said to have pounded her gavel at that point. Kucinich was able to read the articles after that initial exchange.

The republicans wanted to impeach clinton over a blow job, and people hear whine about impeaching george bush as if it is some crazy idea, he took an oath of office, and all the evidence circulating out there shows he is a liar. At least someone will call him on it, cause we all know the press won't.

154. Article 36
...this is what I would write for Article 36...

The President, both personally and acting through his agents and subordinates, has under color of law deprived aliens detained at Guantanamo Bay, a government property of which the United States is the sovereign governor, of their right to habeaus corpus and additional rights with the passage of the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

Depriving aliens of their rights, and subjecting aliens to different pains and punishments, is an unconstitutional violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Further, it is a criminal violation of United States Code Title 18 Section 242, Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law, which, in situations reported to be found at Guantanamo Bay, is a capital crime.

Wherefor President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense and shall be removed from office.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joseph-a-palermo/dennis-kucinich-makes-his_b_106193.html

Representative Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, just finished reading on the House floor a 35-count impeachment resolution against President George W. Bush. Kucinich's lengthy and detailed indictment of this wayward president is the most thorough and powerful case made to date. He outlined a litany of high crimes and misdemeanors and showed without a shadow of a doubt that George W. Bush deserves to be impeached and removed from office. Kucinich made clear that Bush has violated his oath of office and his Constitutional duty that the laws be "faithfully executed."

There is nearly zero chance Kucinich is going to hurt Obama. Corporate media has marginalized him, as well as Democratic "leadership". Kucinich seems entirely calm to me. History will judge him very well. Impeachment is not about right versus middle, but about right versus wrong. You say "Even Obama" which is an appeal to authority and that is not how we Democrats usually do things, more like the way Republicans frame arguments. Authority resides in knowledge, not men. If any leader is wrong, appeals to his or her authority are insufficient reasons to go along. BTW, welcome.

183. How old is this video?
shrub has 6 months left.
what good is impeachment now?
this is like a doctor telling a chainsmoker he's got 6 months to live and they guy says, "if I quit by Christmas, then how much time would I have?"
Nancy Pelosi told everyone 6 months ago, "Impeachment is not on the table".
Kucinich should be doing more constructive things with his time.

Dubyah won't be evicted from the White House (until 1/20/09), but there will be a vote and history will show that this pitiful excuse for a president was disgraced.

They will never be able to escape the truth of what they have done and history will
remember them as the most corrupt and incompetent NEVER ELECTED squatters.

But on the bright side...come Jan 20th these private citizens can be arrested for their crimes and
extradited to stand trial for war crimes at the HAGUE!

200. Godspeed, Mr Kucinich
I stayed up way past my beddybye just to hear each and every count read into the record and to savor the fact that (in the very least) the criminal activity is now public record. I believe it is right: either we stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law or we will surely lose both. I'm writing my DINO Congresscritter now asking him to support Messrs Kucinich and Wexler. Up until now I've gotten only lame excuses from him ("I see nothing that rises to the level of impeachment").

:wtf:

Mr Miller, respectfully, you ain't lookin' very hard. This time, I'm not asking nicely. I'm demanding. Nicely, but demanding. I have written way too many times and have received exactly the same, tired ("I don't really want to work that hard") answer.

My thought toward the timid congresscritters: Either you're ignoring the obvious or you're in on it. Which is it? (We know the repugs are in on it; the Dems aren't allowed excuses AFAIC.)

Mr Kucinich has risen like a mensch and a man to stop the crime and corruption. How many in the House of Reprehensibles will follow his lead and "protect, uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic"? I'd say I'm not holding my breath, but I find myself holding it in anticipation anyway. Hope can lead to action.

Write, call, blog, and email. Lather, rinse, repeat until DC is clean and shiny.

204. And the media follows the lead of the Empress and ignores it all..
Nothing in the major newspapers that I can find - the media apparently sits at the same table as Nancy Pelosi and finds the fiddling of the Emperor enchanting at this point. Or just old news. Which, sadly, it is. It is too late to impeach. No one cares. All anyone cares about now is who will win in November. We cannot be distracted by something so silly as impeachment. The elections are too important. What the Empress will probably say. If she says anything at all.

The democracy died at some point in all of this. Long before Rome started burning.

I proudly voted for him in the primary, knowing that he would be the best person for the job IMO. It is my dream that the whole Democratic Party is controlled by Democrats like him. Never give up on what these criminals in office deserve. An Iran strike is still possible. I don't care if Obama stands with him, just so he doesn't speak out against Dennis.

212. Huh
After I wrote my congresscritter, I called Mr Kucinich's office to register thanks and support. The staffer who answered the phone said immediately "Impeachment is currently off the table, but I can connect you to the Comment Line". (Seemed as if he'd done that a lot this morning.)

I thought it was a very clever procedural move on Mr Kucinich's part; rather than introducing the articles directly (which might not be fully read into the record), he introduced a question which did allow him to read the entirety into the record. Whether or not actual impeachment goes forward (please, Good One, give us some relief!), the entirety of the Articles are in the record for all posterity, every article enumerated and read. By introducing a question rather than the resolution itself, he also didn't exaaaaactly defy the "impeachment is off the table" edict. Well done! I admire his brains as much as his nerve. Regardless of the outcome, we have spoken and it is a matter of record.

216. It did take me aback for a second
or three. The more I think about it, his procedural maneuver may have been the very best way available to get the entire enumeration into the Congressional Record. Whether or not impeachment goes forward, the fact that there is an official enumeration and it's a matter of easily-accessible public information, it nicely hangs a stinking albatross on the neocons necks and the necks of their merry band of rubber stampers. "Guilt by association" is a big stinkeroo in politics and there's plenty of spatter to cover, oh, 99.98% of the repugs in Congress. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeldt and all couldn't have achieved what they have without help -- a lot of complicity in the repug party. (Only criminals support and cheer on criminals, right? That idea makes righties' heads implode.)

Having the entirety of the allegations in the official and public record of Congress puts Boo$hCo in a firmly defensive posture and in such a manner in which they can't respond in kind. Rather elegant of Mr Kucinich, I think.
