Russia Is Biggest Oil Producer, Above Saudi Arabia: IEA Data

Russia was the biggest crude oil producer in the world in the first quarter of 2008, extracting 9.5 million barrels per day, ahead of Saudi Arabia at 9.2 million barrels, the International Energy Agency said Tuesday.

The IEA ranks the United States as the third-biggest producer with 5.1 million barrels per day, followed by Iran, pumping 4.0 million barrels per day. China is in fifth place with output of 3.8 million barrels per day.

The figures show crude output of the top 10 biggest producers in the first quarter on a comparable basis.

Country ranking based on output for first quarter of 2008 (million barrels per day):

* Russia: 9.5 million barrels/day
* Saudi Arabia (OPEC): 9.2 million barrels/day
* United States: 5.1 million barrels/day
* Iran (OPEC): 4.0 million barrels/day
* China: 3.8 million barrels/day
* Mexico: 2.91 million barrels/day
* UAE (OPEC): 2.62 million barrels/day
* Kuwait (OPEC): 2.58 million barrels/day
* Canada: 2.50 million barrels/day
* Venezuela (OPEC): 2.39 million barrels/day

2. They are ready to drill in the arctic ocean, off the coast of Canada
They have no problem tapping into that north slope now that global warming is opening up the sea lanes.
