Bush slams Democrats who 'call for retreat' in Iraq
Source: AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush late Wednesday renewed his campaign-season attacks on Democrats who he said "still call for retreat" in Iraq despite signs of success following the US troop surge there.

Even before the 30,000 additional American soldiers were sent to Iraq in 2007, the Democrats declared the initiative a failure, Bush said.

"And now that the surge has turned the situation around, they still call for retreat," the president said at a fundraising dinner for Republican presumptive nominee John McCain and other Republicans running for seats in the US Congress.

"They want to retreat from Iraq and hope nothing bad happens. But wishful thinking is no way to fight a war and to protect the American people."

...

"In a time of war we need a president who understands that we must defeat the enemy overseas so we do not have to face them here at home, and that man is John McCain," Bush said.

3. Those are the Republican "power words"
Bush uses the words will not "retreat"....McCain uses the words "will not surrender". They are hoping these expressions will trigger an " I-want-to-be-patriotic-and-support-the-war" feeling in Republicans. It worked before, so they will keep on using it.

I think that, at last, Americans know that they are being manipulated.

5. Hey Harry, Nancy. He's calling you traitors. Why are you afraid of
prosecuting him? He's got 30% approval rating. Get to work or be on the wrong end when this thing blows up.

10. Bush, of course, is overlooking the fact that the war is based on LIES.
HIS LIES.

If we had a Congress with a spine, he and Dick Cheney wouldn't be out making speeches, they'd be meeting with their attorneys fighting impeachment.

Go Kucinich! IMPEACH THE BASTARDS!!

13. A retreat is a tactical withrawal. I think what people have in mind is
more like a kind of strategic withdrawal.
