More Americans Think Country's Going In Wrong Direction, Poll Finds
Source: Associated Press

Wherever the nation should be headed, this isn't it.

The number of Americans who believe the country is moving in the wrong direction has risen sharply, to nearly 8 in 10, amid soaring food and gas prices, falling home values and unending war. Just 17 percent say the country is going in the right direction, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll.

That number is the lowest ever recorded by the survey, which began in 2003. When other surveys are taken into account, the general level of pessimism is the worst in almost 30 years.

And it is getting worse. The 17 percent positive reading was down from 24 percent just since April.

--
Robert Ovitt, 57, of Derby, Vt., who describes himself as a political independent, was among those who selected "wrong track."

"It scares me, the way things are going now," said Ovitt, who is likely to retire within five years from his job as a correctional officer.

"Ten years ago, we had a Democratic president, (Bill) Clinton," and the worst that happened was his affairs, Ovitt said.

Back then, gas prices, interest rates, unemployment and the federal budget deficit were low, he said. "Now that we have a Republican, everything is sky high. ... I mean, I don't know how we're going to survive."

1. And still, our Democrats in Congress are crawling into bed with Bush.
80 percent of Americans say the country is moving in the wrong direction, and what do the Dems do? An about-face? Why, no, they cuddle up with the most unpopular President in history.

Anyone have the photo of Pelosi on her knees giving Bush the BJ?

Honestly, Reid and Pelosi would make better door mats outside the White House. Both are a disgrace and an insult to the Constitution.

3. It's because there isn't much ideological difference between the two parties.
Incremental at best.

2. I'd really like to see some quotes from someone in the 17 percent.
I mean, who are these people? What would they have to say, other than "I pooped a hammer" or "I love lamp?"

4. And it's BEEN going in the wrong direction for a long time! We should have started looking for
alternative energey sources back in the 70's when we were hit with the oil embargo, for one thing. Now the issue of global warming is being politicized--one part of our country is being flooded while another part is in drought, hurricanes/tornadoes occuring "out of season". We've sent manufacturing jobs to Mexico, we're in a recession, our military is stretched thin because they are all over the planet...I don't even want to go on with this post....

5. 17% positive ... and what's the margin of error?
This is as unanimous as it gets.

7. We warned you.
Don't say we didn't. Everything that's come to pass was predicted. And you dumbfucks still voted for him (enough to steal, anyway) not once, but twice. Because Al Gore invented the internet and John Kerry wasn't a war hero and went windsurfing once. And many of you are still thinking about voting Republican again. Too dumb to live, too pampered to die.

10. It will be a full 9 in 10 Americans before Bush is out of office
Bush's comment will be that he isn't interested in polling stats, that he has to follow his heart, blah-dy, blah, blah, blah. The entire world hates him, yet he continues to live a life of Peter Pan.

I have never known an individual as dumb as Bush. He can't be compared to other presidents. He just isn't made up of the same material.
