Ahmadinejad target of 'Rome X-ray plot', diplomat says
Source: AFP

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was the target of an "X-ray radiation plot" during his trip to Rome for the UN food summit earlier this month, the official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

The news agency quoted Iran's ambassador to Italy, Abolfazl Zohrehvand, as saying that the plot was to use extreme radiation in the place where Ahmadinejad was due to stay.

The diplomat spoke out after Ahmadinejad himself charged that he had been the target of an assassination plot during his landmark trip to Iraq in March and his aides spoke of a similar attempt in Rome.

"One day before Ahmadinejad's trip, I checked and found out that the (security) X-ray machine set up in the place where he was staying gave off excessive radiation," Zohrehvand said.

He said that the regular radiation level of such equipment in Italy was "300" but on this machine it had reached "800".

1. I wouldn't put it past the CIA to do this but
Personally I'm just gonna chalk this up to crappy equipment. We do that too. Especially when it comes to no bid contracted security and military equipment.

6. President calls for elimination of needless expenses in house construction
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 04:32 PM by ohio2007

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Monday evening emphasized at a session of Supreme Housing Council, "By elimination of certain needless expenses we need to accelerate house construction process nationwide."

Considering lowering house construction expenses a need as a measure to lower the extent of pressure over various social classes, the IRI president added, "We are in need of rapid moves aimed at mass production of houses in Iran."
He further emphasized, "We need to eliminate certain expenses in house construction process, so that on the one hand the people would pay less money and on the other hand the speed of house construction would increase in our country."

President Ahmadinejad meanwhile pointed out the significance of paying due attention to the indigenous-Islamic culture in production and construction of houses, reiterating, "Except the metropolitan cities which are in need of mass production of houses, in other parts of the country there is no need to construct houses taller than three to four floors."

7. That pic explains A LOT lol
Meanwhile, after the collapse of all those shoddy schools and all the dead kids in the Chinese earthquake last month, he's *criminally* insane if he's pushing medieval "indigenous Islamic culture" construction techniques as a building code revision.

Prolly thinks the houses don't need to last very long cuz the Twelfth Imam gonna be here any day now...

23. What does that have to do with equating Zachstar with Ahmadinejad?
And where did I condone assassinating that twerp? What he needs is a spanking.

As long as you're lecturing on how progressives operate, perhaps you can explain why "progressives" rally to defend this sexist, Holocaust-denying, homophobic, holier-than-thou religious fundamentalist. His continual provocations of Israel make them nervous, and that makes war more likely, not less. You approve of raising the potential for war? Haven't you had enough with our own tinpot provocateur?

Seriously - please explain how you can support this asshole given the river of nastiness towards women, gays, Jews, and infidels that flows from his yap. I won't even bother you about the building code stuff. lol

12. My words are not going to lead to a nation attacking my country.
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 11:30 PM by Zachstar
His words will likely lead to such. Israel is reeling from political defeat in their last conflict. And that asshole's words is turning the support into like that of us before we attacked Iraq.

So his words will likely lead to bloodshed of our soldiers. So you will forgive me if I say screw that pissant of a leader.

Hes talkin tons of crap about a nation that has PLENTY of political will to attack and ability to get support from multiple nations. Digging graves for the enemy soldiers like he is some big dog. And doing little in my view to actually try to calm them down. Which might actually work if they decide to just wait.

16. With a nation like Israel you are damn right he is asking for it.
Edited on Tue Jul-01-08 04:56 AM by Zachstar
But It seems that gets in the way of the fantasy of some around these parts that Iran is nothing but happy people with a leader fighting back against the "evil" US and their allies.

Wake up! Take a look at history. What happened before Iraq war started? A mega TON of support from communities ALL over the united states. A nation angry! Remember the calls to turn Iraq to glass? Freedom Fries? etc...

What happened? Chimpy took us to war.

So you are damn right he is asking for it! And if he gets it we will be involved. Id rather see that pissant die 100 times than one more US soldier having to go fight yet another war.

Do you think the Iranians have forgotten about it -- like the U.S. military-industrial-media complex has so conveniently forgotten about it?

All they ever give you is caricatures of this man.

It doesn't matter in the least what Iran does or doesn't do. And it doesn't matter if the mouth breathers spit into their phones when they call CSPAN or not, Cheney will go in if he can.

The U.S. Period. Seems that you have drank the Iran War Kool-aid. Too bad, most on this board can spot political propaganda aimed at fomenting resentment towards a foreign country as a pretext to war. I guess you can't. Pity.

15. 300 mR per hour vs 800 mR per hour? That's nothing.
How long was he exposed? Maybe 1 minute at most? That's not an assassination attempt. It's a pathetic joke. 800 mR per hour for one minute = 13 mR. It takes 450,000 mR in one day to kill 50% of any person within 30 days. All the others would die at a later date. Maybe 1% would survive and probably get cancer later on in life. A 13 mR dose isn't enough to kill a single cell of bacteria with any certainty. I take a 2 to 50 mR dose of gamma radiation every day. 600 R over the course of an entire year only increases my chances of getting cancer by 1% later in life (when I am old). I am only allowed 5 R per year by law. That's 1/30 of 1% increase in my chance of developing cancer later in life. If I continue my job for 30 years and I maximize my exposure every year, that's 1% increase. I never maximize exposure by a longshot and I don't plan on working in this industry for 30 straight years. Radiation isn't as dangerous as people think. However, if we stuck a 200 curie cobalt 60 source into Ahmadenijad's ass for 5 minutes he would die such an unimaginably horrible death that it would make Dick Cheney cringe.
