Attacker Killed Near Obama's Hotel
By AP

(JERUSALEM) — The driver of a backhoe was shot and killed after he drove the construction machine over a number of vehicles near the Jerusalem hotel where Barack Obama is scheduled to stay Tuesday night, according to police.

The construction vehicle struck several other vehicles, including a bus, before the driver was shot and killed by an Israeli border policeman and a civilian, a government statement said.

The driver's identity was not immediately clear and there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rampage on one of Jerusalem's busiest streets. Israeli police called it a "terror attack".

The attack was a chilling imitation of a similar incident early this month, when a Palestinian driver went on a rampage with his earthmoving vehicle on a busy Jerusalem street. That drover plowed into vehicles and pedestrians, killing three and wounding dozens before an off-duty soldier shot and killed him.

1. Well that's a title written to incite, except he's in Jordan at the moment.

Having said that, I hope his security detail is up to the task. :(

3. Not to mention the time when an Israel bulldozer
crushed and killed a young female American peace activist there in 2005. Her name was Rachel Corrie.

9. I would guess the poster wanted to draw a conclusion...
that the way Israel demolishes housing in the Settlements is being turned against them on the streets...

You have to admit that if your house was unjustly destroyed in the Strip, you might consider wreaking havoc with one in Jerusalem. I know that I might.

10. I wouldn't
unless the house belonged to a political or military figure that supports the house destruction policy.

14. I wouldn't stoop to attacking civilians or their property
even if the other side did it. Call me a people person.

15. Fair enough...
I just know that I don't know what I'd do if I've been through what either side has been through in Israel...

4. HMMM, makes me think even more about the Raw Story article I posted
yesterday in which it was revealed that The night Before Obama started his tour over the middle east Condi sent an order telling all Embassies NOT TO HELP candidates.

Or am I jumping?

8. Accuracy may not be everything, but it's something.
"De minimis" was the phrase used: Minimum assistance, i.e., as little as possible. Which, of course, doesn't mean less than is required. This is far more than the "not at all" that I infer from your post.

Iraq and Afghanistan were official Congressional delegations. There he got help, both from State and the DOD. "De minimis" is a fairly meaningless phrase applied to that. McCain et al. got help, Obama et al. get help. It's more clearly a campaign trip, but it's still official. Such are the perks of office not available to somebody like a governor or private citizen.

Israel and Germany? He's going as a private citizen who's running for elected office, the presumptive dem nominee. His campaign's paying his way (except for things that any presidential candidate would get from State, military and Secret Service ... probably not an inconsequential sum for the campaign trip). While I'm sure he's getting more help than I'd get, he's getting far less than if this had been a trip to Europe as chair of his Senate subcommittee.

Not construction vehicles.

18. Hamas hunts down Fatah rivals after deadly Gaza bombing ( politics as usual )
snip
The bombing made Friday the deadliest day in Gaza since an Egyptian-brokered truce was agreed between Hamas and Israel in June which halted what had been near-daily clashes between Palestinian militants and Israeli troops.

The five men killed were all veteran fighters in Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades. Another 22 Palestinians were wounded in the blast, which security officials said was caused by a bomb placed outside a car.

Gaza City was rocked by two separate blasts earlier Friday, one outside a popular cafe in which the attacker was killed and four people wounded, and another outside the house of a senior Hamas leader, which did not cause casualties.

Hamas said it arrested two Fatah members linked to the second attack, but it was not clear whether the three bombings were connected.
